Q: Taxi bumped into me as I was crossing?

I had a green light and was legally crossing the street, guy bumped me. Not hard or anything, I'm still walking, just a bruise. My question is, is there anything I can do in this situation? Have his info and stuff, but I don't know if going to authorities will be of any use at all at this point.

you were in the wrong, just by being a foreigner in China and distracting hard-working taxi drivers with your exotic laowei ways.

You are probably lucky you weren't sued by the taxi driver for compensation for damage to his taxi, not to mention the mental distress you caused.

No point trying to do something after the fact. You should have either got the police involved at the time or fine what locals would and demand immediate compensation

balzac:

Yeah, I'm glad I'm ok, I didn't really think about it at the time as weird as it sounds, he hit his brakes and I jumped and as a result he just sort of bumped me slightly. I was so relieved I wasn't dead, I just kind of....I don't know, I guess my head wasn't in the right place.

So...if I had gotten authorities involved would I have had a leg to stand on?

Hotwater:

Luckily you've still got both legs to stand on...

depends what you were looking for...the driver would probably have got 3 points and a 200 kuai fine. You might have got a bit in compensation. I'd chalk this up to experience.

If it is a busy intersection, there is a camera video footage of the incident somewhere, how you get the footage is the problem, assuming you got the footage, and caused some embarrassment or get an apology, the result would be the guy is out of a job and buys his own car and works for some place like "uber".

Take a picture of his car number and go to the traffic authority.

Meant to give you an upvote but mistakenly clicked the down icon. Your post is appreciated; reminds me this is china. One traffic rule I use wherever I am, globally, both as a pedestrian and a driver, is giving priority to my own eyes and use the traffic lights or signs as supplementary info. because the world we are in is 'hacked'. A green/red light means nothing to a drunk / moron / terrorist / careless driver, also we all know how law abiding and civilized mainlanders are, and most importantly how much a human life is valued in this 'culture'. This priority rule, a habit I purposely develop saved my life on more than one occasion. Hope you and everyone benefit from it.

Yeah, this happens very often. Be happy it wasn't something serious or life threatening as that would have made things much worse.

Taxi? Yesterday a BUS almost ran over me while i was crossing the road when the red light was on! Of course i shouldn't have crossed the road when the red light was on, but that was not the point, the point was the bus driver suddenly purposely made a sharp turning in order to hit me!

And luckily, with over 2 decades of breaking traffic rules, i jumped away and avoided it like a breath.

The lesson? PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.

It's not about following the rules, it's about breaking it elegantly and you need to break tons of rules and get hit countless times to mater this skill.

Someone once said, if you can survive in China, you'll have no problem living anywhere in the world. And they are right. Just think about all the ongoing killing on the road and all the hidden relationships between people. If you can master all these, you'll be a real master.

So get ready and embrace those taxis.

And by way, Spongebob offers special one to one training on breaking traffic rules and not get killed. Pm me for more info.

If no video evidence, deep detailed pictures showing clearly that you were hit or witnesses than you are sh*t out of luck. If you have it, take it to the police (if you can walk) or after arriving at the hospital call the police and make a report.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
