Well for not being able to speak Chinese... go to all the big hotels in your area. They each have a taxi card that not only list some local areas to visit but then also the address to get back to you neck of the woods. The actual words for "Take me to..." sure need to be learned but aren't going to help you get anywhere quicker than knowing how to say the location in Chinese, plus it's not going to help you have any smaller chance to not cheated from said taxi.

My best advice for the taxi drivers, learn so swear words in the local dialect... not only will it impress them that you are more than a normal tourist, but it's also some of the most common words used by the drivers.

Wo yao qu ... (Wuh yow choo) = I want to go ...
Wang zuo bian ... (Wong zwuh bee-yan) = Turn left
Wang you bian ... (Wong yo bee-yan) = Turn right
Qian mian ... (chee-an mee-an) = Straight ahead
Hou mian ... (ho mee-an) = behind
Na li ... (na lee) = where ? (he'll prolly say that to you)
Zai zhe li ... (zie juh lee) = here
Ting ... (ting) = stop

Hope that helps a bit ! Smile

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way you're a mile away and you have their shoes!

Hey is that a different dialect there? I use the following phrases which I thought were right....no left.....whatever!
Right turn – Yòu guǎi
Left turn – Zuǒ guǎi
Turn around – Diàotóu
Stop here – Tíng zhè lǐ
Go straight – Yīzhí zǒu
Perhaps someone can clarify that.
There are a couple of others - dickhead, we're all going to die and slow down!

There are several ways to say them. Just like in English you can say "take a left" "make a left turn" etc

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
