Q: Teachers. What's the dumbest thing you've seen a teacher do in class?
I have seen foreign teachers actually teaching something, can you imagine, like they were doing the local teachers' job, did they forget their position?
You should ask the students. Teachers are not in class with other teachers.

Not sure why this was downvoted. I have seen students hit by teachers in more than 10 different schools. It doesn't matter if it is a poor school or a fancy private school. The students get hit.

There may be those in denial and those that simply feel embarrassed that foreign nationals would know about it, if you see what I mean.

Hahahaha.... funny to visualize. In fact, I've seen it too. Like the person is on some kind of drone medication that prevents any kind of normal human reaction to a class full of sleeping students.

On my first day in China I toured the classrooms of the school I was to teach at. It was just before Christmas. In one class a teacher screamed "Geeeftar!" at the children and in turn the children screamed it back in unison. This happened for quite a while while I sat there and looked on in confusion. It was only after 10 minutes of this I realised that the word that the teacher was say was "gift".
Many more things. Too many to count. Don't know why all the downvotes for the question.

If you want to inject some life into the forum, then why don't you participate?
Am I wrong to criticize someone who asks questions but doesn't provide context or input?
Did the admin ask you to do this?
(My favorite rant...) Do you have the exclusive right to your opinion and get to judge others? Is your opinion and justification for your actions superior to mine?
Would you feel more comfortable and 'put in your place' if I told you that I was rich beyond your wildest dreams and that you were a peasant and thus makes me the Alpha Male of ECC and thus you should just f*&k off?
Would you feel entitled if I told you that I was actually female and there's a chance I'd let you lick the excrement and spit off my pumps if you sufficiently grovel to me?

Like NZteacher80 says... too many to mention, most of them being cultural faux pas.
I once taught in a public school and was giving a test. The kids were all blatantly cheating and the Chinese teacher in the classroom was even helping them.
I got on my high horse and stopped the test while I gave them a lecture about the evils of cheating etc and made threats about how I would give anyone I saw cheating a big fat zero - as if the grade I gave the kids was going to be the grade given to them ( I hadn't been in China long at that stage - didn't know better) and was met with anger and hostility. The Chinese teacher basically never talked to me again, the class got difficult and harder to control because the students all had attitudes and I doubt they learned anything much after that. I was glad to see the back of that place when I left. I went from being the golden boy teacher to the trouble maker.
I won't work in a public school again but if I did, I'd just look the other way like everyone else does. Don't rock the boat, lesson learned.

And no one cared about you giving them zero because the administration or the Chinese teacher would then change your marks, oh and they would collect hongbao for it, 1000 RMB for 100/100, 500 RMB for 50/100, and so on.
You sir do not know how to Chinar, your morals and values are worth nothing here, I actually used to fail students deliberately and then collect bribe money when I was a teacher, never got called out on it, TIC.
A teacher teaching little kids the word "pain" and letting them beat him with balloons while he sat on the floor screaming "oh the pain"! Oh the humiliation....

Looooool, I can just imagine that. I don't usually laugh at the typical day-to-day training center antics but that one did it for me. The structure and ethos of English learning in China, particularly in training centers needs to change, NOW!

Okay. A guy from America turned up at my school and was asked to do a "Show" class. He had no training but was brimming with enthusiasm. He taught a group of twelve year olds, who had little if any grasp of the English language, about the Chinese-American debt ceiling. Needless to say that the class was traumatic for the teacher and the children alike and the children left the class perhaps knowing less English than when they began.
