your best bet is NOT to do a TEFL in china as it might not be up to international standards. Check INTERNATIONAL online web-sites.

I do agree with the former. Do it in your native country and it will serve you better in the future. You can bang one out in a few weeks with an intensive course. I did mine online with a practical element to. It's a mickey mouse qualification in my opinion but they seem to go for it here in the middle kingdom

Get an online TEFL. Schools hardly check if it's online or whatever. So long as you have it it's good enough. The going rate is between 2000 to 3000RMB. Check out London Teacher Training College on the Find Work Abroad website. The course can be completed in five days with certification and endorsement by TQUK. Good luck!

Online TEFL could work best for Native speakers and I guess you are not a native speaker so only an online course would be not sufficient as per my personal experience. If you are impressed by the high salaries in ESL and want to become part of ESL here in China as a non native speaker, a higher degree like MA(English) and online TEFL will raise the chances for you.

Moreover, as I guess people here are crazy about American English so you will have tough time in proving that you are natural fluent English speaker as Indian English is yet not acknowledged in the ESL field due to the stiff articulators.

I didn't mean to disappoint you but to tell you something that could be helpful to any non native speaker looking for an ESL position in China.

Wish you succeed in your hunt.
