My Thanksgiving was just an ordinary day for me. I had to work pretty much all day and didn't finish until 8 at which point I had to go home and do more work so errrrr....... not a ton to be thankful for. There was a foreigner thanksgiving get together in my city but my schedule didn't agree with it. Too bad :( but I will try to do Christmas this year!

Im Canadian but since a Canadian Thanksgiving is no where to be found, i celebrate today. Some freinds came down from Changsha and other from Foshan and I treated them to a full Thanksgiving feast! Turkey, cranberry sauce. Rosemary stuffing. Candied yams, mashed potatoes with gravy and topped off with some pumpkin pie!!! Its cost me 2500 but i am sufficiently bloated where i dont regret it.

Did your friends enjoy the meal?

Yeah thanks. Im assuming so as they took pictures the whole time and left me enough leftovers for exactly one lunch today! Haha. But im not gonna complain. One turkey sandwich is better than none.

Wow, awsome! It makes me wish I was in a city with at least a half decent western grocers. Changshu has NOTHING for western food except for a few lousy expat bars.

Ate shaokao on the street and drank beer. Had some good company so it was worth it.

Congrats on being able to spend 450$ on a Thanksgiving dinner party. I'm sure none of us have ever spent 450USD on a dinner party in our home countries. Hell we can't even imagine spending that much in China where western foods and booze are much more expensive and daily expenses are so low (so it is easier to run up the tab and absorb the blow).

The fact that you think it's a big deal says a lot about you. Congrats on being able to spend 450USD in China on a Holiday Dinner Party. But don't ask the poor 'FARMERS'  (your home made racist term not mine) how much they spend on their Mooncake festival dinner parties.

I can't close without once again congratulating you on making it to a point where you you are so happy to be able to spend 450USd (I know 2500rmb is closer to 400USD but we know how modest he is. He would NEVER round up) on a Thanksgiving dinner party.

I know he's not going to stop there Christmas, New years!? None of us have ever heard of spending 450USD for all 3. Will he be the first?

Spiderboenz:

I have never spent that much on a dinner party at home, but I can see how someone can spend that kind of money on one here. Think about it: quality, imported turkey to feed several people. Cranberry sauce. Stuffing... I can see how a traditional western holiday meal for several can easily cost several thousand RMB. If he can afford it, good for him. Why does it bother you so much?

Spider: I find it funny. It's like bragging about spending 75$ for a new pair of shoes and then saying I got it like that because it didn't break me.

Actually i made a point of saying it was expensive, not as a brag, but as to say it was shocking , ridiculously expensive. For a turkey.  But  if 2500 is enough to make you fly off in a jealous rage and take the time to write a couple of paragraphs then I feel sorry for you. I guess you didnt have much to be thankful for this year.   Maybe next year youll get there if you save up . 2500 isnt much.

Just let Mike be himself - he likes to infuse his posts with little brags here and there. Remember, he used to be an English teacher and he isn't anymore. He makes more money now. DON'T FORGET IT.

I went to a really nice Russian Restaurant with my fiance, as Thanksgiving is a sort of anniversary for us, and then had cake and coffee at Pizza hut. Spending 334 RMB.

I had lambchops and potato salad at a local 'Italian restaurant and American bar'. It did NOT cost me 2500, but It was a nice meal anyway.

Spiderboenz:

Apparently the only thing 'American' about it is the decor. :-\

I did nothing as I'm British & we don't (yet!) celebrate thanksgiving.

What at surprised me a little is the number of happy thanksgiving messages I got from Chinese friends. Eventually developed a copy/paste replying thanking them but reminding them that it's a Yankee celebration & us Brits don't care!

Suppose it's another case of the Chinese thinking all foreigners are the same?

Like every western holiday, I have to work. Then sit on my ass for weeks, during spring festival, enduring boring dinners while people eat with their mouth open, drink fake wine that tastes like gasoline. No halloween,no christmas, no thanksgiving. Just one long boring year.

I went to a hotel for the buffet. They had a turkey and it was fine. The chef even gave me the drumstick, which he then proceeded to chop up into little, bone-splintering pieces as if it were pai gu.  Got back to the table and my mother-in-law was knee-deep into some pig's feet.  Quite a sight on Thanksgiving.

I spent the entire day either in flight or in PEK, waiting to catch my flight to Wuhan where my wife met me at about 11:30 pm. There were only about 5 non-Asians on the flight so not even a mention of the holiday or turkey dinner. Oh well maybe next year.
