Like is there a funny taste or does it look darker?
No you can't taste it and the texture is unnoticeable. If you could taste it there would be no customers in the first place. Could you imagine tasting it and people still coming back for more. Use your head Big Red!
I've always wondered this. To me it seems that oil with a watery appearance could well be gutter oil. I've seen food at those cheap 10 kuai whole in the wall places that are just drenched in this watery oil-like substance.
I(f you go to any of the cheaply noodle place, you can bet your sweet pipi they are.
I would imagine the dead bodies outside would give it away!
One of your friends will tell you when they visit you in the hospital or at your funeral.
There is probably no way to be sure, outside of seeing the source as it arrives. Like most things in China, there is no "immediate" negative health consequences, but wait until 20 years from now, everyone will be wondering what caused the mass extinction!
