Q: Is there any world know pop star or album from China?

In all shops, streets and websites ,many pop albums are played ,even in disco we could see this. But if you go outside China ,when it comes to Asian pop music mostly we find only Korean or Indian songs. Why is it very difficult to find Chinese albums.

In the last ten years or so, Chinese music has mostly unenthusiastically parroted music from other countries (especially Korea, but also the US and UK to an extent). Why get the cheap knock-off when you can get the real thing?

Back in the 90s, when I was young, the university radio station had a show playing a lot of particularly good Chinese music (mainland and islands), some artsy, some electronic, that weird cool movie music, some straight-up pop. I always enjoyed it a lot. I was pretty dissapointed by how far it degenerated between then and when I moved to China. I've looked into in, and there's nothing in modern Chinese music that couldn't be called a poor photocopy.

There is a really good underground scene in some cities, but these bands never get out of China and become lost in the mishmash of the Chinese underground. Chong Qing has some decent underground bands and there have been some Chinese bands break out of the Chinese market such as Beijing Brain Damage, who have released two international albums in the past few years.

But the fact is most Chinese bands sing in Chinese so their music is not really understood outside of China.

Mr_spoon:

It's Brain Failure, not Brain Damage ;) Beijing's rock scene has many great bands, especially during rock festivals outside the city. But the audience is getting thinner and thinner...

You can see many old people playing flute music in some gardens. It is very pleasant to hear, that seems to be the authentic chinese music. The morden generation are trying to mix up all bands of chinese and western ,so ultimately we loose the feel in music.

Well, Japanese music isn't really popular all over the world either. Why? Because first of all it's not in English. Even though Kpop is becoming more popular, you won't really hear it anywhere on the radio outside of Asia, and it's the most popular Asian music at the moment. The second reason is because China, like Japan, is still into the bubblegum pop music that the rest of the world doesn't really care for. They want American music, and Kpop also has that modern dance club sort of feel. That's what's popular. So if China wants their music to be known worldwide, they're going to have to at least follow the current trend.

Queen Sea Big Shark made some waves thanks to promotion by the Yeah, yeah, yeah's. The Carsick cars do well too. But these aren't superstars, more like underground type bands.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
