Q: Is there anything backing up the "China invented the pizza" claim?

Ive heard all sorts of stuff about how China invented the pizza but frankly I dont believe it.

At the time time they supposedly invented it they weren't really producing cheese, had no access to tomatoes, and were not yet making large amounts of bread from wheat. So whats left of the pizza claim? Slices of meat on a plate?

Is there anything really backing up this claim?

The flat bread + olive oil + + basil + random stuff + cheese idea was one of the most popular foods in ancient Rome, according to both archaeologists and one of our surviving Roman cookbooks. In Greece and the middle east, this is still eaten as the pita, and other similar variants. In Italy it remained essentially the same till the introduction of the tomato (a new world plant that was transmitted by the many Italian sailors working on Spanish ships).

Seeing the pita-pizza connection, and the widespread nature of the pitas in former Roman territories, the fact that tomatoes (called "western red persimmon" in standard Chinese) arrived in China extremely late, and that basil is practically non-existent in China, and that flat leavened wheat bread is almost completely associated with Chinese Muslims (Islam and that sort of bread both being Silk Road imports), I really doubt it was invented in China.

No, pasta was around in Europe 1 BCE and even when Marco Polo wrote about noodles in China he was wrote about the noodles as though he was already familiar with the food (hence it not being anything new) again the Chinese trying to steal a bit of credit...

After they invented China they pretty much kept their heads low. If they did make pizza I'm sure it was a laxative.

Click the link for pizza history.

I so love pizza. Love

Not the inedible ones they sell here but the top quality Mediterranean one.

Pizza has been around for a long time, it comes from the Greek word pita and has been poverty food for many years, The pizza we know today is a lot different then the early pizza as it was mostly flat bread with any food placed on it and used as a plate. At one time only the rich could afford plates so every one else eat their food from a barley bread type of pita.

More then likely it came from the Naples area and then was adopted by the rest of the world from there. The Pizza that has become famous around the world with Cheese and tomato sauce came from The good Old USA as it is quite different again then the Italian pizzas.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
