Q: Is there anything that scares you in China?
The people that came here by themselves without any family or no support or any friends living here are already brave. But as brave as you are or you think you are is there anything about China that just scares you? Anything that makes you less fearless?
What scares me are the gigantic spiders I have found in my apartment. On the other hand, it's made me less afraid of regular wolf spiders.
TedDBayer:
get a cat, she'll kill it, BTW female cats are ah ah better hunters
Mr_spoon:
And for me, the giant wasps/hornets. Seriously, they're gignormous.
TedDBayer:
I think Japan has the biggest deadliest wasp in the world,,, at home I kill yellow jackets,, I hate them,, really can't wait to meet giant ones. Tennis anyone?
Jnusb416:
I never saw the monster spider again. Maybe it died under my bed, forever entombed in cardboard. As for the regular wolf spiders, there were 3 that I know of, two of them decent sized and one that's smaller. The normal wolf spiders here don't seem to rear up, just run up walls and such. The one that's usually in the living room is probably the one I killed the other night, because it went in my bedroom. The one in another room might not be a permanent resident. I only saw it once. The small one seems to hang out in the bathroom. I leave him alone because there tend to be more bugs in that area, so if he wants to eat them, I say good for him. Unfortunately there was a cockroach in my washer, which I didn't find out until after I was done washing my clothes (not the first time). Honestly I didn't want to kill the spider. I think they're keeping the cockroaches out, but he wasn't running out of my room and was too slow, so I got him with the broom and stepped on it for good measure.
Mr_spoon:
Why, oh why did I Google image "wolf spider"...
I feel bad for you, living with those horrors :X
Jnusb416:
Well, looking at the google images highly disturbs me too. Honestly, these spiders are "cute" compared to those. I'll have to take a picture for you guys.
Gigantic spiders, rats with rabies, and the idea of coming across you.
The last isn't YOU exactly, but what I might do to you. Just have the bandages ready.
Angry Hunan girls....
GuilinRaf:
I have a close friend from Hunan whom I call my "Chinese Meimei". She truly helped me a lot when i first came to China, saved me from giving a (green) baseball cap to someone as a gift etc.
Anyway, I saw her angry ONCE. At her boyfriend. Even though it had nothing to do with me, I Was Scared!
Drunk bai jiu drinkers who befriend you in a restaurant. Sh*t's gonna hit the fan there.
Getting on the bus every morning, knowing that it's going to stink.
I'm actually sort of afraid that I'm going to get into trouble with the law and that I wouldn't have the means to defend myself, not that I'm breaking any laws at present (that I'm aware of--you never know). But say I have trouble with a student at school or a co-worker, and this student or co-worker has a relative with some important positions with the police or at the Visa office. Suddenly, I might have to leave the country and since I'm married and have a family here I would hate to leave China without being able to make the proper preperations.
Random death.
- Things falling from construction sites and hitting me
- Apartment fires started by some idiot using a BBQ in his living room
- Run over by drunk a-hole, then stabbed to make sure I'm dead
- Gas leak
Generally, you get the idea.
I am afraid that Canada might invade North Korea and piss off the Chinese enough that they will round up all the Canucks and put them in jail.
