Q: Is there anywhere in China that has a "temperate" climate?
I mean akin to that of the northern hemisphere in general with equally long seasons. I've lived in both the north and south, and with regards to the north the summers and winters are incredibly long whilst autumn and spring are merely fleeting transition phases that last a few weeks. In the south... well it's warm all year round (I mean Guangdong/Guangxi area) with about a month of chilly-ish weather.
I hear Yunnan province is quite nice all year round. Never been though.
Kunming's nickname is "City of Eternal Spring" according to wikipedia.

Yeah, I've been to Lijiang area twice in the spring and summer and can attest to it having a pretty amazing climate.

Yes, Yunnan is probably the closest you are going to come in terms of that type of climate. The latitude compensates for the higher southern temperatures such that the winters and spring are not very cold. Summer and Autumn are very bright sunshine wise but the air temperature is more than tolerable. Other factors such as air pollution, cleanliness, scenery, culture etc. all fair well above the norm for China as well.
There is a temperate zone, i.e. from the tropic of cancer to the arctic circle. However most (if not all) of that in China is in the middle of a huge land mass (Asia) and therefore this land mass has different weather, typically much colder in winter as it isn't warmed by currents from the oceans / seas.
Depends what part of Guanxi.
I found mid-January to early May to be quite damp and chilly, with constant non stopping rain and drizzle. I never felt warm during that time.
There are no "warm all year round" places in China, Gruangdong is probaly the clostest to your standard
Yunnan is pretty warm in the winter. Guangdong can be a little chilly, but I've only been there twice in the winter. Yunnan on the other hand... I was sweating buckets in the dead of winter. People were walking around with shorts and tshirts.
Kunming is pretty beautiful, if a little old, dirty and drug-infested...
Why everyone is answering with places that feel like "spring or autumn" all the time? I think the OP darkstar is asking about a place that has about 3 months of every season?
