when it comes to churches, if it aint sanctioned by the govt it is illegal. so tread lightly.

GuilinRaf:

Crimo is VERY right.  Tread VERY lightly!  If you are westerner and just westerners are at your gathering, you will be given a pass BUT the moment ONE Chinese person is present, even if he/she is the spouse or significant other of one of you, you will be in serious trouble.

My personal recommendation would be to find an official church that is closest to your beliefs. They usually have Bible study and fellowship. If not, you can organize one AT the church. May even be a good way to make friends if you are new to the city.

But DO be very careful. This is implemented the "local way". They may let is slide for a bit, and then , suddenly, they will crack down without warning.
