Q: Is there a legal limit on how much landlords in China can raise the rent?

Is it legal for landlords to almost double the rent in one go? Surely there have to be some laws to keep their greed in check and protect the rights of tenants.

The best way is for people to become Educated and realize the China housing market is a big bubble waiting to burst.   People here are kind of impatient and stupid when it comes to renting or buying apartments You cant call these houses because they must share the building with a thousand people..   They think they must have the house now, which causes people to buy in a panic mode.   When the people finally realize the houses are not worth what these criminals are charging, then the housing prices will fall overnight.    The law does not good here.  The Chinese officials are greedy and take bribes, they are a law to themselves.

Didn't you sign a contract in Chinese that guaranteed a set rent price each month for the duration of the contract? If so, you can take it to the police. If not, you're at the mercy of his or her price-switching.

Yes there is. You can check the website to find out how much a similar apartment like the one you have goes for. If the guys landlords price doesn't match that then he can be in big trouble.

No! of course there isn't rent control here! They don't even have that in most US cities any more because it creates a situation where owners can't afford to maintain buildings. Although of course in china they wouldn't maintain them anyway.

jeeez, a blogger from this website who should enlighten us about china ask us if there is any law that controls the rent??(this shows also that most jobs you get in China are just because you're native English speaker. No knowledge, neither any skill or sharpness)?

how long have you been living in china to ask such kind of questions?-.-'

you should already know by now that no one enforce the law except you got guanxi enough that your "friend" do it for you. I knew this after 1 month in Beijing.....

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
