Q: Is there a "name check" at Wuxi Railway Station?
Hi,
I am wondering if there is a "real name check" at any Wuxi Railway Station where they check if the passport number and the ID number on the train ticket match?

I have only being requested to show my passport at two different instances at train stations all over China.
1.- By train conductor just after train departs, when they must make a list of all persons in each car.\
2.- When exiting train station after arrival. I show them my passport nd train ticket, and many times they just wave me to continue, but to locals they do scan the ID.
My passport number so far has never shown up on the train ticket.
Well right now they have a huge tent in Shanghai in which they check anyone who enters the train station. I guess that is because of Spring Festival coming up.
My passport number always shows up on the train ticket since they enter it when you buy your ticket ?!
This time I did not buy the ticket myself..

I have travelled inside China for almost 15 years now. I do most of my traveling by train, unless I am in a hurry to get somewhere. I have never been asked for my passport, nor I have given my passport number, when buying a train ticket. Another thing, now during Spring Festival, what is really happening at train stations' entrance is a check to allow thru only those that have a train ticket departing in the next few hours, in an effort to have room for the huge number of travellers.

There definitely is a new law since more than 6 month that you can not buy any train ticket without your ID or passport!

On November 15, 2011 I travelled from NNG to CAN on train number 2572, and returned from Can to NNG on November 19 on train 2573, bought both train tickets at a travel agency near my home, and did not show my passport, nor my passport number was on train ticket. That does not mean at all that what you said is correct, nor that I am correct. Remember, nothing in China is cast in concrete !
It is true that there is a new law about the passport number and name being required on ALL tickets. That law came into effect within the last six weeks or so. Before that, it only existed for the D and G trains and certain express trains.
And yes, there are special lines at the train stations in the major cities with "enhanced" security features in place during the Spring Festival Holiday period -- and perhaps even after that.
I bought tickets yesterday for later in the holiday travel period and I was required to produce a passport with valid visa/residence permit and they noted all my personal details off the visa/residene permit.
Alright.
so back to the question if there is an ID check at any Wuxi Railway station since I will depart from there tomorrow with a ticket that does have a different passport number on it.
