Q: Is there a place to buy cheap English books in Beijing?
stop by any xinhua book store and you can find certain books really cheap. Or just go with the always popular answer, buy it online.
I recently discovered a guy near the houhai area who sells pirated English books on a blanket on the pavement. All books sold for between 10-15 rmb and while the paper quality wasn't as good as the original, all the text was fully comprehensible. I bought several Haruki Murakami novels for a bargain price of 10rmb. He also sold a wide selection of non-fiction books, mainly about doing business in China. At the time, he was located on Di'anmen Dongdajie at around 5pm. Not sure if that's his fixed spot but definitely keep your eyes pealed when you're in the area.
Update: Page One bookstore in Sanlitun or Indigo Mall is the place to go now. Fab selection of English books!
On the street near Wudaokou - 10-15 RMB a piece, if you filter through all the self help books and get rich fast books there's some semi decent stuff!
On the streets of CHaoyang district you can. I got my books for 10 kuai each. All very good!
If you either go to the new Joy City located in Chaoyang or the new Japanese style shopping that's about half a mile down the road you can find these guys selling books for a reasonable price of 10 kuai each.
