Q: Is there a quick, safe, and AFFORDABLE way to send packages home?
I recently sent a box of gifts home to a family member in California. It measured exactly one square foot and weighed 2.1 kilos. FEDEX charged me 1,643 yuan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Because it was my little brother's birthday, I had no choice. I feel like I was anally raped dry. To add insult to injury the FEDEX pick-up guy refused to give me a receipt making me wonder how much of the 1,643 went into his pocket? Does anyone out there know a better, cheaper way to get packages home to America within a week without theft? Christmas is coming and I don't want to be violated yet again. Thanks.
Mail early, even back home that is the message. You can mail surface of air parcels by China Post.
CFTU:
No problems with theft Ted? What is the savings and how "early" are you talking?
TedDBayer:
From Canada to China, surface mail 3 months, by air one month, send a service that will insure the parcel.
for me it takes about 3 to 10 days from Nth China to Brisbane Aus
they charged $25 Aus for 1 kg
But you can pay $6 Aus a KG but it takes 4-6 weeks
min of 10kg
This was through our local post office in Mudanjaing
To me, China Post will be the answer. i have used them both ways, for 15 years, and have never lost an item yet. yes, it does take time, but mail it parcel post now, and it will be in USA before Xmas.
For parcels coming to me here, a few rules are write address in Mandarin, do not use stamps but meter tape, fill custom forms correctly, put a cell phone of some one fluent in Chinese so Postal Services can contact person when parcel arrives, etc. Insure no forbidden item is shipped is a good one too.
For parcels out of China, write country of destination in Chinese, become familiar with what can be shipped and what can not, and pack correctly to prevent breakage. Register and insure all parcels
one of our customers now is ordering small amount of quite heavy items on the pallets, it goes by sea, and from southern (and coastal) China to southern Europe it is about 200USD/CBM (plus the price of a plastic pallet)
delivery time - 8-10 weeks to Europe, to the States should be much quicker (about half of this time?), and probably even lower price
maybe it is not the way for Christmas gifts, but for large items it seems to be good price
ask a friend from some company near You location, to check prices with shipping agents, many of them can give You this kind of service
Fedex and DHL will be very very wise choices for sending a package overseas.
Slow motion = China post and arrives safely/
Real motion = Fedex or DHL
Never ever = UPS
I think all delivery services work .... and they all screw up occasionally and they all rip you off ......... it is expensive to get mail in and out of China!!!!
if mailing from china ......... be sure to at least have the country you are sending a parcel to, written in chinese on the parcel ..... then it might get headed towards your destination and then they can read the rest of the address
find a forwarding company, they all got enormous discount from FedEx, or DHL, or UPS.
I mailed packages home using China Post and everything arrived in prefect condition. It took about 3 weeks though. Overall I was very happy with China Post and I will definitely use them again the next time I want to send stuff home. I know other people who used very well known delivery/shipping services and they said that some of their stuff got robbed so I decided to take my chances with China Post and everything worked out great!
