For the last week there's been coverage several times per day of the EU Horsemeat story on the tv here.
Not being able to understand very much I am puzzled how the propaganda people are thinking this is good to show to the Chinese public. Is it a "look, food scandals do not only happen in China" thing ?

Well yes. You guessed it pretty right. The food scandals in China are way worse than this though.
However this reminds me of two school tragedies last year. One was in the US Newton Connecticut, a gunman killed more than 20 students. The other took place in China mainland, a knife man injured about 20 students too. The Sandy Hook school shooting thing was extremely detailed reported for one week or so, while the knife man thing quickly went silent without further reports.
Besides the "Look, foreign countries suck as much as China" intention, I also guess that the propaganda people and their bosses care really a lot more about Europe and America than they do about the poor pathetic Chinese kids. Because Europe and America are where their kids and families live. I feel like I've become a conspiracist. I really hope my guess is not true.
Obviously Europeans are uncivilised by eating horse meat. China is more civilised - monkey, dog, cat and donkey.
At least the horse meat wasn't poisoned, like much of the food and water in China is.
do news agencies make a big deal out of the sun rising in morning? no because it is a daily occurrence . same reason they don't cover problems with their food, air and water.
Because Chinese people rarely criticize public bodies in their own country for anything.
However, where food safety is concerned, many have made an exception. Some Chinese people have gone out of the way to criticize the inspection bureaus etc. for not doing enough to guarantee public safety.
To counter the criticism, the state owned (and manipulated) media focus heavily on any news that shows foreign producers and inspection bureaus in the same bad light. Just call it tit for tat politics.
Chinese will come out saying they been eating it for 5000years with the health benefits it gives you.
There isn't enough horse meat in my sandwich. It ain't easy being an Orc.
