Q: They're screwing with search engines now?

Planning my holiday trips and I was searching yahoo and bing for shuttle bus info. This normally would give me travel china guides or wiki travel's page but the results were random nonsense. I then searched "from outside the great firewall" and then I got the results I was expecting. So they're trying to force us to use baidu?

Yep. All searches are all screwed up. Nice way to sabotage your economy by hampering all and any foreigners that might be doing business in your country, China. Well done!

Note to Echinacities: No results turn up for you in Bing. This might affect your business too.

Interesting comment. I generally use Bing first and for some questions get ecc results. Depends on the search though.

As an example I just tried "CFTU scam" as a search. First two results:

My Yahoo is OK, because it's an old email address from my USA times.

I remember, I had to add my real address at that time, so I guess my Yahoo-gle is US part, not Chinese.

I've never been redirected to any Chinese website through Y!. I also don't use Windows OS.

New thingy at my Y! account is 'unexpected sign in attempt from unrecognised device' warning last three days. Warning always comes in when I want to move from Y! to other website.

Internet in China is a way of:

1 - pushing products

2 - spreading the word from above

3 - having conversations easily monitored +1 and 2.

A search engine working to propose you what you actually need would be in direct contradiction of the first 2 principles.

Baidu's "search engine" is just a repository of Baidu's clients sorted by keywords and paycheck size. With enough humor I could say it's actually very transparent. Not surprised they would impose new regulations to dumb down those renegade foreign search engines, with their weird business model.
