Q: Those living in Shanghai or Beijing - how do you stay fit (without dying from pollution)?

Hopefully this won't be a problem for me much longer, but I'm curious to know how you all keep fit in China, seeing as we practically can't do any sports in China.

Do you practice indoor sports regularly? Draconian diet? No drinking?

Or have you, like me, been helpless and gained a little weight?

I am in Shenzhen where the pollution is only half as bad, but I hear you.
I did nothing at first, packed on a few kgs then joined a gym.
If you don't like fitness centers, then I would buy a stationary bike for your apartment.
Or play basketball with the locals...indoors of course.

Before you judge someone walk a mile in their shoes, that way you're a mile away and you have their shoes!

I put on about 40 kilos, but I only blame laziness. Just walk a lot, take public transportations, and try to resist the fact that there's food everywhere anytime.

A:Chinese are generally pretty tolerant friendly and accepting whatever foreigners do.  I spent 15 years in China but I wouldn't say there are that many don'ts....Don't assume that many people speak English though and learn some Chinese. Don't speak much about politics unless you want to praise Chinese system.  -- Natalie363
