Q: For those of us who have been here longer than 4 years
Back before Beijing had the Olympics 4 years ago and Shanghai had the World Expo 2 years ago, concepts such as, standing in line just didn't exist yet. The sidewalks were a veritable minefield of turds, yellow puddles & loogies you had to tip-toe around. Of course these things are still problems but how much would you say its improved since then?
To my surprise, no dogs on the streets in Jixian, Tianjin last year.
Then, one night at the dinner with some people from Ji County, I tasted beef-look&taste-like meat in a big bowl.
At my first taste, I had a photo of big deer in my head, or kangaroo. Very lean, dry meat.
I couldn't tell by taste, so I ask Ji 'tigers' about it. No answer. I was enjoying deliciously different Chinese cuisine with few more bytes.
Then, I get an answer: Dog!
I heard, dogs are safe in Beijing and Shanghai?
I live in a 2nd tier city so I'll hope you'll forgive me for sounding like a rube but I have to ask. There are places in China where people stand in line and don't piss, shit and spit on the street? I'm not sure I believe you.
i havent seen any improvement in these areas in the last 8 years here in china...
only noticeable change is no of cars, more expensive cars, more high rise buildings, more malls etc... but ppl.. still exactly the same..
In my oppinion nothing changed, even with the expo

The only changed I noticed was people getting extremely cocky because of their country's improvement and recent fame. Not even THEIR improvement nor fame, the country's. They're still the same, but cockier.
I expected most people would say nothing has improved. We have alot of Negative Nellies in this forum. But in general, at least with the places I've lived in, it seems like now I can go a whole day without hearing "HHHUUUUAAAACCKKK" I'm sure the public pissing and shitting is still happening but it seems to have moved from the sidewalk to the bushes. At least its a step in the right direction.

I guess you never make it out to any 3rd tier or smaller cities? Not that it matters...I still hear that shit and see all the other rude occurrences every time I go to Shanghai. Granted, I've only been here 2 years, so nothing to compare with before.
I've been here 7 years and hadn't realized until I read the question but I think i've definitely noticed a difference in the amount of people spitting has become less. As for turds and puddles of piss, I didn't know they were a big problem. I've never seen anyone taking a dump in the street. The queuing thing hasn't seemed to have changed much.
