Zhuhai has lots of stuff going on, e.g. every year on a central, slightly run down sport facility, under the Olympic logo, which is there for no apparent reason, there is a week long market which is an excellent place to buy nuts, especially almonds. So that takes care of 1 day, 364 to go. 

I am constantly amazed by the lack of cultural events in a city of 1.5 million. Sure there are concerts, etc going on, but the only places I see things like a band playing in the corner is in the expat hangouts, where mostly expats play. 

The before-mentioned venue seems to be rarely used. A few events each year like a car show, a "getting married fair" (???) 

Then of course there is the race track, it has a few things per year too, but if it is just a matter of seeing some people go fast around the track, then the Macau annual race is far more accessible. 

Basically we are down to; hang with people at cafes, restaurants, parks. 

How do we define "small city" ?

I just came back from a barbecue along the Taihu lake, made an afternoon of it.  I often go to the lake or canal with my portable barbecue, make a fire and roast meat of unknown origin.

Tomorrow I will take my mountain bike out for a ride, and Saturday watch World Cup rugby.  Go Springboks!  

If you are bored in China, you will probably be bored elsewhere too.  Just need to continue doing the things that makes you tick, or find new ones.

I lived in a small town before, I don't now. I kind of wish I still did.

I used to - not all at the same time obviously -   go to restaurants with friends to eat and drink beer, play poker, practice Kung Fu, go exploring on my bike, work out in the gym, read, study Chinese, watch movies, learn to cook all sorts of different food, have friends over for dinner parties, watch documentaries, run, play badminton, swim, help Chinese friends pass English exams or just improve their English, plan for my future, study online, spend time with my girlfriend, learn to play the guitar ( that didn't really work out but I tried), drink at home, play ping pong,play  badminton, go walking in a park or a strange neighborhood, surf the net...

I live in a bigger city now and still do most of these things. There really is no reason to be bored, wherever you live.

We're close to the ocean now so we go fishing , take long walks because the air is better. Read a lot of books and go out to eat more often. Plus travel to cities in this province . There are so many interesting places nearby . Happy we made the move to a smaller city .

My morning dump is usually the highlight of my day.

I've got some things to do.  Take notice of all the new monstrosities being erected by the day.  Take notice (when the bastard internet works) of the argy-bargy going on in the Western Pacific as it heads towards a crescendo.  And go to the new (only) place that makes/sells beer that's not a restaurant.  (German beer, and I'm going there in 55 minutes from now....Wooohooooo......)

What do people do in big cities?  Probably the s-o-s.
