Q: Of those of you who ride bicycles here in China, did you ever run into anyone, if so what happened?

I haven't had any serious collisions; only minor ones. I always give the other person a smile and a wave indicating "Sorry!" and "It's nothing" - the same as I would do anywhere else in the world.

In most cases, you can immediately defuse the situation just by being nice and indicating that everything's fine. Actually, Chinese people usually seem really happy when you opt for reconciliation.

If you react aggressively (regardless of whose fault it was) things are likely to escalate, and <SPOILER ALERT> escalation doesn't end well for foreigners.

I have never hit anyone but once I was walking on this back street and this woman runs right into me.  She fell off her bike and seemed to be injured.  She could not get up and looked like she was in agony.  I did my best to help her.  Shortly after a crowd gathered, her husband showed up who also tried to help her and then an irate brother-in-law showed up and started yelling.  It seemed to take forever for the police and ambulance to show up.

I had to go to the police station and much to my surprise they had video of the incident on their cell phones by the time I got there.

The police were very nice about the whole thing and they seemed to be having a pretty good laugh about it.  I think because I was walking, did not feel a thing or have a scratch on me and she ran into me on her bike and went to the hospital.

The whole time I was at the police station I was worried about how she was doing and kept asking for any updates.  After a while she showed up at the police station with her husband and after the company I was working for gave her about 400 RMB she made a 100% recovery.

someone ran into me, some months ago. I guess a countryside worker, he starts to apologizes and was quite scared by my face...i check if everything was ok on my bike and i let him go. Besides, i always think that in china there is NO law, so as a foreigner if you really got hurted: check how many people are there, and then solve it byurself

I always bike to work. Once, an old guy was coming in front of me, also biking : he was on the wrong lane, driving left side. It was raining heavily. Suddenly an electric bike went also in front of me, quite fast, so I had to dodge both of them, while a bus was passing by left side. I messed-up the dodging and felt. No harm. Neither the e-bike or the old guy tried to at least move, despite being on the wrong direction. The old guy stopped and looked at me, quite worried. I gave an angry look and told him "Why are you on the wrong lane ! Right side ! Right side !". He said in English "Sorry ! Sorry !" and kept riding on the wrong lane.

...Right or left lane, for bikes, does not seem to matter at all, nobody care. Drives me nuts...

I've told you before...  I ride straight into the bastards, T-bone style.  Then somersault over the top of the (offending) vehicle, land, and stand wide astride and stare them out.

Inconsiderate people.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
