The other day, in a cafe in a capital city, I saw a sign on a door in the toilet that said "don't put the paper down the toilet" - which I did presume meant the toilet paper - not the hand-towels.
Being the arrogant foreigner I am, I completely disregarded it, and merrily wiped, dropped and flushed (TMI time??)
What would you do?? I just don't think I want to contribute to China's sanitation issues...
The plumbing in so many places is so weak that toilet paper can cause it to plug up and back flow. But it is disgusting to be using a toilet next to a waste bin filled with used toilet paper.
And from what I see in those waste bins (becuase you can't help but glance), I have to ask myself, "What the hell are some of these people eating to get colors like that?"
this topic have been repeat many times on this site...Do some search before ask it........
btw, can we talk about something nice, fun, and intelligent topics? please?
Shining_brow:
But Localla, almost every 'discussion' that starts on this site ends up being not nice, not fun, and seriously lacking in intelligence! Shall I give some examples of how (which, I might add, just happen to have your name on them...)

truth hurts doesnt it sweety, makes your head want to explode to find out all those years of indoctrination cant stand up to reality. i have the cure for you, come to nanchang to let me administer it
If it's a western toilet, I almost always flush the toilet paper. I figure I'm the only one doing it, it's not going to get clogged from flushing toilet paper one time.
Even when using squat toilets I flush the paper.
I just flush each time after each paper used....works well.
Once at the factory, when I first came here, I flushed after a giant...well you know, and about 4 big pieces of paper and it turned into a big giant crapfest mess.
I learned my lesson.
Nobody told me about the no flushing paper before.
Always flush, and hope for the best. Good idea to keep to the 2 square rule. Toilets here do have smaller waste pipes though.
