I applied for my visa in America. It is a multiple entry tourist visa. I assume that I have to leave the country every 90 days, but can I just go out and come back, or is there some special procedure? Also, does multiple entry mean unlimited entry or is there some sort of limit to how many times I leave and come back?

There are tourist visas with limited entry(my first tourist visa was only for three entries), but a multiple entry visa does not have a limit on it (except for the time limit of course). Yeah you can just go and come back, fly to Hong Kong for a couple of hours and fly back, no big deal. Or use the time to visit another Asian country for a couple of days.
be careful of 6 months double-entry visa... i used to think it means you can stay for 6 months in china and leave and come back twice. actually it means that within 6 months, you can enter twice and stay 30 days each time... in other terms, it's not a 6-month visa, it's 2 months!
yes...for example like you go out to macao just for a walk then come back~~
feel free to contact any visa and company queires...
