Steve, please be aware of one thing, YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW ALREADY by working with a tourist visa. That is a NO - NO for the local authorities.
But that aside, you can either go to PSB and request a 30 day extension on the stay of your visa, but you will have to show them a savings account with enough money in it for you to live those 30 days. Or, you can go to Hong Kong and apply for a new tourist visa, but there they only give you one entrance, 30 days. Of course, at the end of those you can go to PSB at your city and get another 30 days extension.
But you need to resolve your visa situation, you are running a risk by doing what you are doing now.
Yes, you can get a student visa in Hong Kong, I got one for my daughter there. Then to PSB to get the rest. But you can not work with a student visa.
You need to decide what you really want to do first, study or earn money. Then get a visa accordingly.
yes i know i am breaking the law, i thought when i got here they had the licence. I think i will probally study for 6 months then as cant rely on them to get the licence.
This is a trap in which many foreigners find themselves, particularly when it involves private language training centers. It is not an easy thing for a private language traning center to obtain permission to hire a foreign teacher. They must show that they have been in business for a set period of time, that they have generated a certain profit level for that period of time, etc., etc., and all sorts of similar requirements, most of which I have forgotten by now.
I would simply look for a job in the city where you are now that can provide you with a legal Z visa. Exit to Hong Kong, obtain a multiple entry L visa until the Z visa from your new school has been processed and then exit to Hong Kong and obtain the Z visa.
The job market for foreign teachers in China is exceptionally hot this winter 2012, for reasons that I don't know, and you should have no problems finding a school of any flavor that can accommodate you with a proper visa.
