This is kind of a silly question. Chiense medicine is such a huge category that it's impossible to say if it's effective or not. I've lived in China for a few years, and sometimes the doctor gives me Chinese medicines. Usually I don't see the big result but I figure it can't hurt at least. Not like Western medicines that pollute your body and sometimes do more harms than good. Western research has even backed up many Chinese medicines, for example the medicine used in most parts of the world now to treat malaria was first used by traditional Chinese doctors.
TCM works best if you believe in it. There are a number of techniques, drinks, and herbal rubs that seem to be effective for a great number of people. The best advice I can offer is to suggest you try it. Most TCM procedures are natural and non or minimally invasive, which means ther's not a lot of risk involved. But, if you're going in expecting it not to work, you might as well just take the Western medicine.
