Q: Train station knife attack due on May 11th?

If there's any pattern to these attacks, that is. Now, this might seem like a crazy conspiracy theory, but you never know if these nutbags planned these on specific days.

I'm recommending that everyone stays away from the Train stations on the 11th. I honestly really hope I'm wrong; it just seems like the past two attacks were 5 days apart. I could just be totally crazy... I hope I'm totally crazy. Just be safe...

Thankfully most of the train stations i pass through have x-ray machines, so knives/sharp objects should be detected .

I can believe i an actually thankful for such Orwellian security.

However, (conspiracy theory alert), this might not prevent station security being involved.

I'm not traveling on the 11th anyway

stay safe all !

Scandinavian:

those x-ray machines are manned by people who are often not looking. the place I go most often with "high security" is the PRC/Macau border. I've never seen them pick out anyone for a bag inspection.... and you do have a lot of time waiting in line to observer what is going on in front, especially if you, like I was the other day, is in line behind a guy from Saudi Arabia and 3 black people from South Africa.

sorrel:

true,

some of the 'security' people often look as is they are about 18 years old.

AND given that the queues are so long and people so impatient, i would doubt would give them much time anyway. even if they did look

I noticed more often than not there is only 1 operating x-ray machine out of 6

humbug:

besides looking about 18 years old, they aren't highly trained security personnel. I'm pretty sure they'd have no idea what to do if they actually caught someone carrying a weapon...

Orwellian security, for an Orwellian society!

The station security are useless! At train stations, metros, even airports... "Oh, you're Chinese and only have a small bag. it could only hold an Uzi and a few mags of ammo... you can go through".

Hulk:

They are often busy chatting on QQ or reading the newspaper. They are so easy to distract. And that doesn't mean they can't attack the guards. In some places, they attacked the guards, then they went up and started slashing people waiting for tickets.

They also slash people outside.

You still have to go outside and go through the motions. When people panic (especially Chinese), a stampede is imminent.

In Shanghai I've seen many people walk by the security guard and ex-ray machine with hand bags and back packs.

Isn't doing patterns and hiding messages in acts of terror something mainly happening in the movies. ? Bin Laden wasn't too hot on it was he? I doubt separatists would be too, it's not planned to that detail it is when the opportunity arises it happens. A component of terrorist activity is to in part allow the attacking cell to do end planning themselves.

You don't have enough data to reliably predict any sort of patterns. Really. One attack might inspire another one, the different attackers not knowing each other. Some wicked form of emulation, if you will. Or cell-like organization

*If* those attacks are coordinated (any news showing it's from a same group ?), it's to inspire fear. I would say, don't fall for fear, just carry on as usual. Likelihood for one specific individual to be stabbed are very, very, very low anyway. You are far more likely to be hit by an electric bike or a car. If you see some mess in a train station, just quietly walk away in a place with few people. Don't assume that this guy next to you gonna stab you because he looks like an Uighur.

Panicking is *always* harmful. It plays in the sense of those who want to create terror.

There are other things to consider:

1) Why has no one (or group) taken responsibility for these attacks?

2) Why has there been no further information regarding the perpetrators who have been arrested?

3) Why are the police so slow to respond in areas where there is usually overwhelming police presence?

4) Muslim extremists are usually looking for their ticket to "heaven" (i.e. martyrdom via suicide) and yet these perpetrators either "escape" or are shot (then nothing is said about them again).

5) Every train that I've been on has CCTV cameras at both ends of the cars. Where is the footage of the perpetrators' actions before the attacks?

6) Why does every incident result in more heavily-armed police patrolling the streets rather than more scrutiny by security forces in transportation venues? Heck, when Shanghai had some to-do about soccer, flights were delayed for hours and lines for the security check took hours to get through. When GZ hosted the Asian Games, subway stops and hotel lobbies had security checkpoints.

7) If these attacks are the result of overseas meddling, why are the perpetrators using machetes? Surely a well-organized and funded group would be able to provide weapons and explosives?

So many questions, so many "answers" pointing towards government collusion.

Shining_brow:

No collusion... just not caring, and doing what they always do... very little, except covering things up.

1) I'm sorry, what country are you in? Someone actually taking responsibility for something??? huh?

2) Cos it's China

3)  Cos it's China

4) Cos it's China

5) No-one gets to see it - cos it's China

6) Cos it's China... and 'face' is more important than actually solving problems.

7) Cos it's China... and it ain't a religious thing!

In all honesty, I'd say this one was the result of China's policies, and not giving a damn about the people. There are so many 'terrorist' attacks that happen in China on a daily basis that you never hear about, it's not surprising. So, probably just a copy-cat who figured it's a way to get noticed.

I'm going to Urumqi on the train on the 11th.  We're here for a good time, not a long time.

I don't even believe the scarce news that has been released on the subject.

But I am starting to worry that China might in fact be a olt more dangerous than I had previously thought. Like, orders of magnitude more dangerous. Worse than any ganglands in the west.

Hulk:

Help me understand this.

You don't believe all the pictures of the dead bodies? The blood? The guts and stuff everywhere? It's just a ruse that happened next to thousands of people?

I believe the deaths are real. I don't believe we are even fed enough fragments of half-truths and accidental facts to even discern what really happened through all the propaganda and secrecy. I'm guessing it's false-flag operations by the gov't, but it's just a guess. Could be anything from scrorned, face-lost nutters to cannibalistic hunters looking for meat.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
