Hi everyone,
Just a quick query I am travelling to Guangzhou using China Southern Airlines then using China Southern again for my international flight, so I have a few hours stop over in Guangzhou Baiyun airport before my connecting flight.
Do I need to collect my luggage once in Guangzhou then check in again as the airline is the same and yes I have emailed then airline to ask but no response so far, and have been phoning for the last few days but no one is answering, so I thought maybe someone on this site might be able to offer some insight, thank you.

When You first check in make it clear to them that you do not want to se your bags till you reach your final destination
As a frequent China Southern user my I also suggest you wrap your case in bright plastic and tape it so it cant come open and you will find it easyer
The staff like to use the over head throw when loading aircraft
Be preppard to stay over night in a hotel (free) as they couldnt run on time even if they were run by a Swiss watch company
they give you 2cases at 23kg per person plus on board carry on bag
If you are 6ft tall book early and get bulk head seat as the others are a little snug
Safe trip mate
I'm not sure, how that works in China, but you'll get all instructions at the first check-in.
I'd say, you don't need to worry about luggage in Guan., because they'll know at check-in about your final destination. You can ask about it at check-in, if they won't ask you about your final destination.

Have you booked a connecting flight having a stop over or two different flights of China Southern?
If one flight with stop over, remind/inquire upon arrival at Guanzhou, most probably the airlines keeps/transfer luggage without you being involved.
If you have two separate tickets then you must pick your stuff and hand it over to the assigned counter of your next destination.
If you got a delay which normally international flights do not seem to have, here is a hotel you can try for taking rest at low cost with airport pick and drop service.
020 3604 3609. Dail them up and they can pick you at any hour from the airport and drop you back in time.
Thank you to everyone for the advice I really appreciate it and yes I have booked one flight with one stop over with China Southern never flew with them so hoping it’s a positive experience.
I will definitely ask when I check in about whether I have to collect my baggage and check in again when in Guangzhou or it will go directly to the final destination.
China Southern have always sent my luggage on to my next destination. For peace of mind just confirm this when you check in the first time.
I'm flying Sichuan Airlines in a few days and they say they can't do it. But for half price I'm prepared to cop it.
They usually send it straight on even if you have a long stopover. I was in Abu Dhabi for 9 hours, but the staff at Chengdu sent it straight to destination Amsterdam.
For your peace of mind, know the three-letter code of the final destination airport, and make sure that's what's on the suitcase label. You'll get an accompanying luggage sticker that has the same code too - they'll often attach it to your boarding pass.
I think mine had CDU-AMS on it, and i didn't even worry. Even despite the fact the Chengdu ground staff tried to rip me off for 1100 dollars for overweight luggage. I saw my luggage disappear on the conveyor with the right label.
And it reappeared in Amsterdam.
in the (thankfully) far off days i was in Changsha, i had to take 3 flights home.
1st flight up to Beijing I had to collect my luggage in Beijing, change terminals before checking it in for the next 2 flights - when it was sent direct to my final destination.
I was a bit annoyed at having to collect it and have to check it in a second time, but apparently this was some form (their words) of security to prevent Chinese citizens from doing something - it was all very vague.
I flew China Southern (and partner airline) first 2 flights, European airline 3rd flight.
just my 2 cents
