My wifes uncle is a bus driver.
I will ask her.
An interesting story about being a bus driver in China: It must be stressful. But just to add to the stress, if you are a public bus driver and have an accident that is deemed to be your fault..... you have to pay for the bus to be repaired.
The wifes uncle had an accident, a car pulled out in front and he hit it. Wow. Wonder how that happened. The Police determined the car driver was at fault, but her uncle had to attend a re-education course.
These guys are paid a pittance, and get no backup from their employers when things go pear shaped. Amazing.
I think, only Chinese citizens can be bus drivers in China. I saw Russian looking bus drivers in Harbin and elsewhere in Heilongjiang, but I think they must be Chinese citizens.
As you know, I have motorboating license .
I dig out the weblink with 'Contact Us' for more info:

'For the official driver license you can drive either automatic or manual transmission cars below 9 seats.'
A foreigner can get three-wheeler, car and motorcycle, so it should be technically possible to get a bus or truck license. However whether the PSB would actually issue one without freaking out over it, I'm not sure.
The law states that you cannot even apply for a truck or bus license until you have completed a trouble free initial six years of a car license, then when you have completed that you get a 10 year car license and you can apply for bus and truck licenses.
They might let you transfer a foreign bus or truck license or they may insist on you sitting the entire test in Chinese.
The question is why would you even want to drive a truck or a bus in China?

Oh, and for either license you'd have to so the multiple choice questions in Chinese.
In fact I'm fairly certain it would work like this....
1. Get your foreign car and motorcycle license translated.
2. Do multiple choice questions for cars in English
3. Get the C1E license, then keep it clean for 6 years and get a 10 year one.
4. Re-translate foreign license with your bus and truck licenses shown.
5. Do multiple choice questions for truck or bus in Chinese. (You may be allowed a translator if you have enough guanxi or are in a small enough city).
OR
They won't accept the foreign truck and bus licenses at all and do the whole test. Either way you'd have to be able to read Chinese to do the multiple choice test.
OR all foreigners are blocked from truck and bus categories as PSB policy.
