Q: Two points: 1. Belts that don't fit 2. Capri pants

Got a couple of stupid fashion police kinda questions.

1.  Why do people buy these huge belts that don't fit them at all? Anybody else notice that? You'll see these typical average size guys here probably with a 30-32 inch waist wearing a huge belt for a size 40 waist. It'll be wrapped around their waist almost half again and kinda stick out or droop down.

Belts are so cheap here, why not just grab one that fits in the first place? The extra bit of leather at the end of a belt shouldn't need to go much past the first loop or so to tuck it in.

2. What's with guys wearing capri pants now? I'm not trying to sound like some judgmental conservative dipshit here, people can wear whatever they want, but is that a new style for men?

My point about the belt that's obviously just being a dork. Not realizing that makes you look like kind of a slob to have a belt that doesn't fit. But the pants thing, is that a new trend...is that considered stylish and bold for a man to wear back home too? or is that also people just not really having a sense of how to dress?

1st, I have no idea, why?

2nd... probably because the weather is hot now.

I wear it as well.,. but mine is not till the calf just slightly below the knee (is that considered capri pant?) , Few company policies restrict men to wear anything till or above the knee.

It looks funny because many C men have thin legs.. It looks much better on a thick and little muscular leg.

Because many Chinese youth are slobs and absolutely obnoxious self-entitled morons to be around.

Heck I even prefer the middle aged folks around here, at least they still have this fraternity communist mindset where they do not judge you according to your race.

The youth are all "me, me, me" and Zhongguo pride let's gang up on these foreigners stealing Chinese girls bullshit. They constantly feel threatened by our presence and become verbally aggressive to mark their territory or whatever reason.

And yeah, men fashion trends here suck by time, well when they have a semblance of fashion.

I can't help but laugh when I see effeminate skinny Chinese dudes dressing gangsta rapper ghetto yo, they would shit themselves 5 minutes into a ghetto, I'm not aggressive person but they already look down the ground when I pass them in the street and they are alone.

But the worst are the fake classy guys, they have the look with designer clothes but still behave like straight from the countryside peasants.

My pet peeve  is the shoes many middle aged men wear. They look like they are made from plastic or vinyl and are overly shiny. If you are too cheap or can't afford a pair of real leather shoes, I'd much rather see some plain looking fabric ones.

Men in capris? Nope.

I don't even like them on women. Only tall, lanky women with looooooong legs can pull them off. They make everyone else, particularly Chinese women, who tend to have shorter legs, look more stumpy than they would otherwise.

The guys with long belts are just being cheap.

expatlife26:

Yeah capri pants can look amazing on a thin girl with long legs because they'll make it look like she has a bigger ass than she does.

Girls with more hourglass bodies don't really look as good in them.

Just strange to see it on men because it's a very feminine looking style in what it tries to do.

But why would an oversize belt be cheap? I get buying a cheap belt. honestly if you need to cut corners somewhere and still look presentable a cheap belts a good idea. Just get it the right size

1) Sized belts are hard to find in many places, and here in Guiyang, they are much more expensive than the one-size-fits-all version.

2) Capris are more comfortable in hot, humid conditions than long pants, and are accepted as work wear (whereas shorts are not) here in Guiyang. That's why I wear them. Skater style baggy below the knees shorts are popular with kids here, as they are in the US.

Slightly off topic here but a query about belts. I was asking my Chinese female colleagues what to buy a Chinese male friend for his birhday and they all suggested a good belt and did some research online on which kind to buy him. I was astonished at the prices, the belts were above 1500 RMB but they weren't any particular brands, one even offered to give me her husbands belt which he doesn't like for a cool 1000 RMB, are belts that expensive or am I just cheap??
Oh and I didn't buy him a belt after all, managed to order a quality gift from the US, sent over and it still didn't cost me anywhere near the cost of a belt.

expatlife26:

nah belts are one of those things in a lot of cities where theres the cheap ass ones they sell on the street and then theres the super expensive ones for 1000+ at those shitty local department stores. Tough to find the reasonable $50 belt that will last a few seasons without being super fancy

i dunno, i guess from the other responses cheap belts aren't sized so they're just as big as the fattest person they think is likely to buy them.

Ugh, glad I buy things like belts at home. Never bought a belt here.

for fat asses like me, a good quality belt on taibao one brown and one black cost me 149 rmb delivered to the school gate for pickup. the belts come in increments of 10 cm long starting at 90cm, i ordered 130cm for a 40 inch waist, the belts in the stores were always bad quality and never lasted 18 months, but the taibao ordered belts have been just fine with no trouble.
