Q: Txt spk run rampant?
Honestly I can't stand it. My "txt spk" is limited to roughly two words: lol and omg. It seems to be overused, and not just online but also when people text me. I once had a 28 year old man text me this way, and I was appalled. Do they not know that this makes them seem silly? Is it because the people they talk to online type this way, and therefore, they believe it's normal? Thankfully my students don't write their papers this way, but sometimes I wonder if this will affect students' written English at some point. Can I just tell a friend of mine not to use it anymore? I don't want to hurt her feelings. Then again, she also calls me "sweetie." I don't think she understands pet names yet.

But yeah, txt spk is really the most annoying concept ever invented. I know it was meant to be practical at first, and even I started using it for a while when I was a teenager (the shame kills me), but now it just makes me mad.
