Q: A typical block of storefronts in my hometown China

I desperately desire what I once believed to be the norm, a CHEAP TAILOR and a laundromat or 2 on every block.. Must I leave the country, to get a shirt to fit around my ever growing belly, due to the abundance of beer stores while I search for the laundromat?
This is very true. Except where I am , you can also add tea shops to the very short list.
Laundry places used to be everywhere, but I think they are being phased out as even the poorest are starting to buy a washing machine. That can only be one small reason though. It is wierd.
I think its just another sign of the lack of creativity in chinese people. Many of these shops dont even need to make money Just a face maotai shop for a son or something. And the others just arent smart enough to even try to plan for a shop that would be useful to the people around it. This is exactly why now you see a mango desert shop on every half block. One did it so others will too.
I also think the chinese have this idea that companies grouped together is a positive thing. This is where you see. One city or province will make all of the ,say wood, products in the damn country. And if you want to buy shoes, you dont go to a show store. You go to a shoe building with 500 shoe stores all competing for your business. I know someone who had a jade shop, in a jade mall. Yes , your not going to see alot of window shopping there, people are there to buy jade. But youve just lost all your margins competing with literally 700 other small, no name, jade shops. Let em all fail, i say. Im just guessing this is why they have no problem opening up a cigeratte shop next to 4 other smoke shops.

Walking down a street here is like that ubiquitous background in the flintstones.
Shopping is a joke in China, apart from some foreign owned malls and supermarkets it's always the same copies of copies of copies of copies ... of stores, no originality, no uniqueness, no one tries to stand out, they all sell the same products at the same prices and when one is out of stock they are all out of stock.
I don't understand how so many stores stay open, often see staff of girls standing at entrance, rarely see customers.
