Q: UK passport Renewal - procedure updates

After reading the UK Gov website I am of the understanding that I have to go to my nearest office (Shanghai) in person both to apply in person and to collect the new passport. Which raises the questions:

1) Do I have to go twice? Can't it be couriered?

2 ) How am I supposed to go home on the train if I do not have a passport on me.

Thanks for any updates

I got my Passport renewed in September. My wife took the documents, first time for me to Guangzhou, then a friend of a friend picked it up and posted it back to me,so you can use a passport service both times.P.S. I had to send a letter from my boss to Liverpool, saying I was in fulltime employment in China,so that slowed down the processing time to about 5 weeks.

You could find all info on UK Embassy website about 1..

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office

When I renewed my book (not UK), it was sent by mail from Beijing.

2. You can purchase train or bus ticket with photocopy of your passport photo page. Make copy of your valid visa page, too.

Thanks , the webpage is as always vague as ever.

It looks like I am going to have travel 600km round trip twice just to renew my passport.

icnif77:

No, you don't need to travel twice. Passport can be send by postage carrier to you. Mine was. I had to come to Bj only once. As soon as I received new passport, I sent old one to Embassy by post. 'edit': 'Embassy kept my old passport, and sent me both passports (old one clipped) by certified (delivery by signature) mail. I had copy of passport and return ticket for return to my city. Purchase return ticket, before you'll travel to Shanghai.'

You could ask for detailed info on 'Contact Us' on Embassy's web link.

I always use that. Last year, I wanted to travel to Pakistan, Uzbekistan, some other -stan close to Afganistan, and I got all info from 'Contact Us' on Beijing Embassies web link.

Wait a bit. There are more UK posters here, so they'll chip in with info. As I remember last time I read here about changing/renewals of UK passport is lengthy procedure.

You can also look for older threads on the subject from search above. Write 'UK passport renewal' in search. There are 2 more older threads beside yours.

Hotwater:

It was a lengthy procedure 2 years ago when they moved it all to the UK.

I renewed mine in Guangzhou last summer and it took 13 days from handing the form in to getting my new passport. That included DHL to the UK and back. BUT....I live 2km from the office in GZ so was easy for me.

I didn't look into postal applications of whether passports could be sent back by courier.

A:https://chinabyteaching.com/teaching-english-in-china/am-i-eligible-to-teach-in-china/ 6. Age requirements There is no single nationwide age rule applied consistently across all of China. In reality, most Z Visa approvals tend to cap somewhere around the mid-50s, but how strictly this is applied varies by province and employer. Age is often more of a hiring preference than a legal rule. Kindergartens, for example, may prefer younger teachers, while international schools often view age as experience and are more flexible. Ironically, even ‘young’ and ‘older’ are subjective – some Chinese employers might deem 40 to be ‘too old’ to teach kindergartners! If you are at all concerned about age, it is best to raise this early with recruiters to avoid wasting time with the wrong job applications. At the end of the day, you should strive to find a school that appreciates your experience. https://www.gooverseas.com/blog/guide-teaching-english-china Requirements to teach in ChinaTeaching English jobs are competitive in China, and to teach legally in China, you'll have to meet a few qualifications:English proficiency: Passport from one of seven "native speaker" countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and South Africa).
