Well, i didn't take the advice many of you gave me and leave within the 30 days probation period. The boss seemed like she might make an exception as one foreign teacher claimed he wanted to go running at 5 am each morning. I thought there might be a chance they would get rid of the ridiculous curfew. turns out they won't budge on this rule. the least i can do considering they won't write it in the contract is let some people know.
If you don't want to live in a prison that locks you out at 10:30 pm every night and monitors everybody that comes in and out of the apartment building (meaning you can't have any visitors over, regardless of gender) then don't work for Nanjing University of Information and Science Technology (NUIST). Chinese: 南京信息工程大学 (Nanjing xinxi gongcheng da xue).
It's also over one hour away from the city centre with only one public bus to get there and back. you can only imagine how many students use it and it's sometimes virtually impossible to get on. taxi will cost u 65 rmb one way.
if that's not enough to steer u clear of this school then suit yourself.
Now to my question. How much time do I have from the time I announce that I want to quit until the school cancels my current residence permit. Can I even begin the new visa application process with another school if this school doesn't give me a release letter or says i need to pay breach of contract fees before they give me the letter? I know that I can go work full-time at the training school i currently work part-time for. i'm guessing that would require a visit to HK. if i break a contact will they blacklist me? will another university be understanding of why i did so?
Have they given you ANY reason for this?
GuilinRaf:
As to blacklisting, schools are so desperate for foreign teachers that you are bound to find one willing to hire you, especially if you explain the reasons for breaking the contract.
crimochina:
they always make up bs excuses like "a foreign did blah blah blah so we have this rule"
the truth is this rule was probably put in place by a jealous chinese guy looking to restrict foreign guys social activity.
It was the same at number three middle school in Handan, Hebei. I got out of there as soon as possible.
It depends, what is written in your Contract. Does your Contract include 30 days Resignation notice?
If your A is 'Y', than you give them 30 days Resignation notice, and new School will be able to extend your current Residence permit.
You could also seek proper advice at FEB in Nanjing. You can list 'curfew at apartment' as reason for resignation.
I consider 'free apartment' as part of my salary, and I won't accept any unannounced changes, as 'sharing of apartment' or 'curfew'.
'Not suitable' apartment is always good reason for 'resignation'.
Doesn't crimo work in nanjing? If you don't like the curfew and they won't budge just pay the fee for breach of contract and go someplace else that will make you happy!
Get out as quickly as you can!!! How in the hell did sh*t like this ever get started in the first place? How desperate for a job were people to have ever put up with that kind of shit?
I actually know a man who has worked for the same University of 5 years and if he isn’t home by 11:00 he has to wake up someone to let him in. I am guessing that here are people that have put up with the shit from your college for years too. Why?
I am able to come and go as I like, but I don’t live on school grounds. I have, however been told by the “agency” I work for that I shouldn’t ask for my girlfriend to move in with me which amazed me since my contract says nothing about having others live with me. If I didn’t trust the agency so much I wouldn’t follow their advice, but my next contract will have it clearly written in it, that it is ok, or I will look for another job. I have never lost sight of the fact that I don’t have to work for this school nor do I have to work in this country.
I actually had a person try to tell me that it is illegal for a foreigner to live with a Chinese national without being married. Has anyone else heard of anything like that? I guess since we both work for a High school they feel it gives a wrong impression to their students or some other back-assed logic like that. The fact that most married Chinese men have girlfriends and beat their wives is ok though.
crimochina:
chinese men are insanely jealous foreign men. that is why it started.
Scandinavian:
actually the reason for all the people who are being control freaks on who lives where with who is based on the hukou system, when it was enforced most strictly did not allow people to leave their birth home without prior approval by employer and authorities. just like other successful countries such as North Korea and the DDR.
