Q: URGENT ANSWER REQ'D: Can tenancy agreements be altered without consent?

This is for those who rent their own apartments with partners/other people.

I moved in to my apartment with my girlfriend.  We both have our names on the tenancy and we both signed it.

Now, we are splitting up, and she left tonight, I think with the tenancy agreement.

Is it possible for her to get our agent to alter the tenancy agreement and fk me up without my consent?

Do we not both need to permit the agent to make alterations and or cancellations?

I need an answer urgently as the sht is hitting the fan at the moment.

Cheers.

In any other country I would say that she would need your permission, but in China I highly doubt it. Do you have a photocopy of the contract? I realised that my contract is not legally binding whatsoever. When I signed it, my flat mate was not present so I asked the landlord to wait until she comes back but the landlord insisted that I just sign her name on her behalf. So my contract literally has a fake signature on it and it doesn't seem to matter at all. If you get pressured into something, just say no and ask for compensation. Don't give in and make sure you let them know that they'll have to deal with a lot of mafan if they try to screw you over.

Carl, if you don't have a copy of it yourself you might be in the shit.

It also depends on what your relationship is like with your landlord. If they are not too fond of you then they will happily let your ex screw you over.

Sorry to hear it mate.
