Hello all, I have a rather unique question. I am a Chinese national by birth who left for the U.S. at age 3. For some reason or another, my parents never naturalized me into a U.S. citizen and in my adult life, I found that having both a Chinese passport and an American green card can basically get me into any country I want without much trouble.
My question is, traveling and getting tourism visas is one thing, but am I legally allowed to work here in China with my Chinese passport? Keep in mind that I do not and will not plan on getting a "hukou" or ID card. Do I still need to get a "Z" visa? Am I considered a Chinese National but like, not employable? Any help on this is appreciated!

Everything in china is about HUKOU and or more important GUANXI. if you have the second, you can have everything.
GOOD LUCK
If you plan on working in China you will need to follow all the same rules that other Chinese citizens follow. And that includes having a hukou and ID card.
The only exception to this is if you are in China with an American passport, then you would be treated as an American.
On a side note, if you are a green card holder, don't forget that you are required to touch American soil once every 6 months or you can lose your green card. This is what happened to my wife and we are having to go through the entire process all over again.
Yes and no re the above. For citizens of of the PRC who have lived all of most of their lives outside the PRC, there are special procedures in place for their return to China. Yes, the hukou and ID card, that is true but they are also required to obtain a special re-entry permit / visa at the local Chinese Consulate. Once I can find this information in more detail, I will post it here.
Maybe this is China Way,two nationalities is impossible here,in China,if you working in China as a Chinese, you need a Hukou and ID card,as we all do the same thing. As a USA citizen ,working in a office, you need a Z visa,so cancel your Chinese passport is necessary.
No ID card = not legally Chinese.
There are a few people who due to very unusual circumstances have an ID card and a foreign passport but every time they have already had the ID card when they've become foreign citizens and so long as the 'foreign' government don't start telling the Chinese government who are citizens they will remain ok.
However they already had an ID card. There is no system that I'm aware of that you can get an ID card AFTER having a 'foreign' passport without surrendering that passport and getting certification of having done so, and without an ID card you won't be recognised as Chinese for work, mortgage, accommodation, banking, travel tickets, almost anything.
if you still have Chinese ID, then you don't need to apply for the Z visa.
how can you get chinese and US passport at the same time? you don't have US green card?
