Q: Use taxis or small truck to move in Beijing?

I'm going to be moving apartments soon in Beijing, and I don't know if I should use a few taxis or call a moving company for a small truck. I don't have much stuff - no furniture, just lots and lots of clothes and luggage (there's two of us), all the kitchen stuff, the big water bottle heater thing, winter clothes, etc etc etc. I think by taxi it would take us between 3-5 trips, but I don't know how much it is for a moving company to bring a small truck just for an afternoon (2-3 hours).

At least in my city there are small closed bed trucks and vans for rent with drivers, and they are not expensive at all.  But be aware, all the driver does will be to drive the truck, he will not move a finger towards loading it or unloading it.  He will sit and smoke, and watch you work.

There are also places were you see people sitting on sidewalks.  You can hire one or two to do the lifting for you at both ends, locally they charge between 50 to 80 Rmb per 8 hour day.

Or you could contact a moving company to do it all for you, make sure you do get estimates first.

A good friend moved between buildings in same complex a year ago.  Took him about 6 hours, and it cost him 200 yuan.  100 for the truck, 100 for two labors.  and all he did was issue instructions and warnings.

A moving company quoted him 350 Rmb for the move.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
