Q: using a China phone in Canada?
Somethings wrong with my iphone, so I tried my Motorola and Samsnug from China with my SIM card. The phones say no service. Do your China phones work in North America?
Do you have trouble with unlocked North American phones in China
I'm using a SIM card and pay as you go at home.
I unlocked my Rogers LG phone 6 months ago and use it here in China and back home with no problems.
I also bought a cheap Sony China cell phone (unlocked) and used it in Canada with no problems.
Are you trying to use a China SIM card in Canada? Because mine will not work there.

I have a China cell. Samsung Anycall rules! I am on my second one. You can open up something at China mobile that lets it go global and can use it in any country.
It works, Ive used it the EU, AU, US, the Mid east etc.
It has a China sim card!
Its expensive overseas! I have a US cell and I use my skype alot when in or out of China,skype to skype calls are free. I have a sim card for the Chinese cell for HK, I put it in the China cell phone to save money.
I have another for Vietnam, another one for Turkey, etc. for local calls.
As for US cells, they can work in China if you have the right plan.
Yes, you just need to activate the international service. It matters not if you have a pre-paid sim or not but you will need to top up more than just a few yuan.
And yes, China won't care what phone you have to activate international service that's got nothing to do with them. They only need to ensure the SIM is activated for use abroad.
I have never had any problems with my phones (iPhone, HTC, Sony) working in China, US and other places. The only place I have had a problem with them is in S. Korea. For some reason there, only phones with government registered IME numbers can work in S. Korea.
You (original poster) do not say whether you are with Rogers, or with Bell / Telus. If with Rogers, then your China bought GSM phone (IF it has quad band GSM) will work. If with Bell/Telus, then it possible that your phone will not work as (if I remember correctly) Bell / Telus only use the 3G bands. Again, if your China bought GSM phone does 3G in the 850 and/or 1900MHz bands, then again, your phone would probably work with Bell / Telus.
My China Mobile supplied Motorola A1200 bought in 2007 worked perfectly well with Rogers.

Ahh...! Then without knowing anything about those phones, I'm going to guess that they did not support the North American GSM bands (850 and 1900MHz). They only supported the rest of the world (900 and 1800MHz).
