Q: Using Chinese debit card outside of city - withdraw/transaction fees?

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find it.

Anyone know how much the withdraw/transaction fee is for a normal ICBC debit card (I didn't sign up for anything fancy) when used outside of the city? I've always just taken a big wad of cash with me the few times I've traveled, but I'm thinking maybe that is not the best idea anymore (an acquaintance recently had money stolen doing this). I found a source online that said withdraw fees are 1% of however much you're taking out, but it was an old source. I'd also like to know if general transactions with debit card outside of the city are charged extra.

I am not sure, how much are fees for getting cash out of ATM in another city, because I rarely do that. The best is to use ICBC Debit card for purchases (all around China), only. If you need cash, withdraw it at the ATM or Bank in the city, where you opened account.

I would suggest two Chinese Banks, without fees for withdrawal 'out of the city': China Everbright Bank and China Merchants Bank. They might reenacted fees for 'out of the town withdrawals', because I never do that.

China Merchants Bank grant me Gold Visa (MC) ATM card for 1000 Rmb deposit. I can use Visa card anywhere in the World.

So if you charge something to the card in another city, say a hotel or hostel stay, then it doesn't add any extra fees?

Correct! No cash withdrawals out of the city! ATM cards from 'Banks with fee', as SPD, or newly open ICBC, I use it only for 'purchases', when I am out of the town. If I need cash, I withdraw it exclusively at the 'home' Bank or ATM, and then I travel with cash else wear.

Banks in China have similar rules as Credit Card Banks in USA. I agree, to pay fee for borrowed funds, butt... in China most Banks charge fees for managing my own money.

CCB charges 0.1 %, but now that I think about it, Bank of Jiangsu charges 0.1% and I'm in Jiangsu.
