Q: Is using a "neti pot" in China safe?

The change in seasons is screwing with my sinuses. I want to use a neti pot to flush them out, but I'm  freaked out about this ever since those people in the US got "brain eating amoeba" infections from using tap water. While I obviously I wouldn't use tap water here, I'm still concerned that bottled water isn't completely safe either. Anyone have experience using a neti pot here that can advise? It's appreciated.

If you are in a major city and if you are incurring sinus problems, why not take the most prudent approach possible and consult with a local ENT qualified physician at the best hospital in your city?

Definitely boil the water for at least 3 minutes, whatever water it is, even bottled water. That should get rid of most of the bad stuff.

...maybe if you just did nothing your sinuses would adjust as they do for all of us.

Doing nothing is the most powerful of all actions

Scandinavian:

if the change is due to climate going from wet to dry or the other way, then just suffering will let the body get through it faster. if you relieve the suffering by whatever remedy you might chose the adjustment will take longer.

if the reason for using a neti pot is to lower symptoms of allergy or another medical conditions, then that is another thing, but due to a change in weather, that is hysteric.

I don't think you can (should) compare using a neti pot with antibiotics !

Scandinavian:

yup, but OP is experiencing discomfort due to change in humidity. I am not saying you shouldn't use a neti pot in any case. I am not unfamiliar with the challenge of going from very humid to very dry climate. But is passes in a week. If you lubricate yourself by using a neti pot the body will not know what is going on, thus you will be addicted to the neti pot until the climate goes humid again. !

I don't really know what a 'neti-pot' is, (but I can summise from the information given), but if you are worried about the quality or the purity of the water, and if as Pogger says, you should add some salt, wouldn't it be a lot easier to buy some sterile saline solution from a hospital or even a pharmacy? Lord knows they seem to use enough of the stuff.
