If someone marries a Chinese woman, I read something about her needing an interview for a visa. If she doesn't speak good enough English, she will fail. Is this true and why?
11 years 18 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
In Aus it is not a problem
Sorry don't know about Canada
If your married I heard a Chinese as a better chance on getting a Canadian green card then a visa, i have a friend going throw this process.
My experience (Canada)....... "sometimes" they decide an interview is necessary.......in my case they said....
1.)not satisfied that the marriage is genuine..........
2.) primary reason for marriage is to gain access to Canada..................
these are standard, basic, form letter type, reasons. In the comments, by the interviewer .... which I have because I am in court with them..... she says and I quote ,, "your English is very weak, I am not satisfied that you have common language to communicate for a genuine relationship"
and she said ..."Real couples make specific plans for their future together", which is true and we had plans, although my wife didn't communicate them to her. but it is Immigration that put them on hold.
another stupid thing, in my mind, is they grilled her on why my 21 year old son didn't attend the wedding.........duh, like he gives a shit, and he hates China.
Not true. She MAY be asked to have an interview, but it's not gauranteed.
I agree with Phil.Shouldn't be an issue.
Just do all the paperwork in Chinese If she could not speak good English.
I did all the paperwork in English when I was applying for a visa to Australia, the phone interview were in English as well, and I got my visa the next day after phone Interview.
How long does it take for an immigration appeal to be decided by the Immigration Appeal Division?
- On average, it takes the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD) about 10 months to decide an immigration appeal. This is only an average - some cases are decided within a shorter time, whereas some cases take longer.
- my wife's interview was in Hong Kong...she had to go there ... on July 4th, 2011 ....... she was rejected ...I submitted the appeal immediately ......... I have been back to Vancouver twice, first time March 28th, 2012, they postponed it after I flew there specifically for it (and they rejected her tourist visa to attend) .....second time ... was Sept. 17, 2012......so they are now contemplating, for another 7 months by the looks of it............I have been married since April 30th, 2009.
From the look of the answers, it seems it would depend on the country she is applying to go. I am not familiar with any other but USA, and it is not a requirement to be fluent in English. In fact, most employees at the US Embassy and Consulates are Chinese nationals, fluent in English but hired and paid by the Chinese Governement and subcontracted to the US (nice deal, eh?) As such, they are bilingual, and many interviews are carried on in Mandarin instead of English. Once in a while an American will be doing interviews, and if not fluent in Mandarin, then English will be used.
But all papers and documents must be filled in English, black ink used, and print letters, not handwritten.
BHGAL:
my wife's tourist visa application, to attend her permanent residence appeal hearing...... I filled it out in Guangzhou, in English, because I thought I could do it better than her .......... The Canadian Government employees in Guangzhou (Canada-where everything is French or English) .told me that I had to do it in Chinese.......her tourist visa app. had to be in Chinese!!!!!!!!
Ted you may have to get some political help to make sure you get a fair hearing
make shore you have plenty of supporting evidence to counter act any negatives
and prepare your positive arguments for the questions you know are coming your way
Sorry mate
I don't know how it works in Canada so this is about as much help that I can offer
My wife went to an interview, but this was before we were married.
They asked questions she would only know the answer to if we truly knew each other, like birthday, employer etc.
Her English is good, so there was no questions about that, but I why would they care? Maybe you speak Chinese together.
After getting married and they saw she already had 2 schengen visas in her passport the next one was just given - 2 years validity, multi entry.
This is for Denmark.
My wife was required to go to an interview for UK visa. She was allowed to do the interview in Chinese
