Q: Wanted to know if its possible to fly internally in china with passport photocopy

Hey,

My GF is waiting for her passport to come back after applying for residence permit here in China, in the mean time she has a photo copy of her Passport and her expert certificate, will these be accepted when it comes to flying internally.. i.e checking in at the airport and going through security etc.. Thanks in advance.

I believe so! It shouldn't be any problems, because FEC is Chinese ID document, and together with passport copy, she should be fine.

You could stop at PSB, and ask them for confirmation before flight.

Doubt it.  I tried to replace my lost bank card when my passport was at the entry exit place and they wouldn't accept a photocopy even with the form from the entry exit place. It's your form of ID which I assume they will require even for domestic flights.   Let us know though.

Thx for the replies, I was hoping to get a reply from a forum member that might have already gone through this but its early days. I will email the company I use for airline  tickets and see what they say.

It is a risk.  At times have gotten through, other times not.  The way things are recently, I would error on caution and have all legit documents. Gatekeepers always fickle.

You can't. What you have to do is having the paper the PSB released for passport collection chopped by some official (ask in the PSB, they will tell you to what desk to land, just tell them you need to take a flight). This will allow you to fly. Done already 3 times in these past 3 years.

No, that is the final answer. I've tried even with the receipt from the PSB.

You might have better luck using the passport photocopy if traveling by train.  With ticket and passport photocopy in hand, this was enough to satisfy the train station security check when I traveled during this past Mid-Autumn holiday.  However, I did use the actual passport when buying the ticket.....no experience using a photocopy when purchasing the ticket.  Worth a shot....assuming taking the train is feasible for your travel plans.

Thank you all for you taking the time to answer.. Won't risk traveling with a photocopy/ FEC, just have to wait for the winter break before making the trip.
