In Beijing at least, I've noticed the subway tracks to often contain puddles. This morning on the way to work, there was a drip of water coming down from the top of the train and dripping down in front of the door as I got on. Can someone clear this up for me regarding exactly what it is? Is it commonplace for any MTR system anywhere?

I know what you mean I've been noticing some water falling on me as well. It's like a sprinkler system sometimes. I looked up, but couldn't figure out what it was. It's more than likely going to be some type of leak. They should look into this more seriously!
according to researchers in japan the subway tends to arouse young women in short skirts. which leads to dripping
It's condensation from the air conditioning.
Whenever you have something that is colder than the air, water is going to transfer from the air onto it's surface.
Air conditioners mounted on buildings have little pipes running on the side of the building that collect the water. Air conditioners on subway trains don't have this luxury so they just drip water wherever they go and it will evaporate or it will drain off if there is a lot.
They're *supposed* to drip water between carriages or below the train, but if there is a problem they could drip water inside the train. I've seen that happen plenty of times in the NYC subway system, the air vents themselves dripping water onto passengers on really hot days.
Nothing to worry about. The condensation water is, in fact, cleaner than any rain water or even your shower water. Condensation is one of the best ways to purify water (ie: water distillers).
