Q: water problems in apartment?

Is it just me or anyone else have water problems with the water going on and off intermediately.  Spoke to a friend said it was bad last summer.  How can a fully plumbed apartment have water one minute and 10 minutes later nothing?  is there a certain water allocation to a block.  I am in northern China and about 4 th tier city as i guess you would not get this in Bejing

In general, and for your information, in China the South End is rich in water, since it does rain a lot more than in the more arid north.

So, if you are somewhere north, in a 4th tier city, would not doubt you may have a water rationing program that you are unaware of.  So, do check around with others (neighbors, friends), and if so, suggest you buy a few buckets and fill them up like everyone else is doing probably.

To me, rationing the water never gives the proper expected results, since what users do in response to rationing is to horde it.

Do you live near any heavy industrial facilities?  I know a lot of factories will install a "helper" pump to get a bit more pressure.  But of course, this ends up robbing pressure and flow from their neighbors when they use it....

There is something wrong with your pipes you should call a specialist and have them check it out for you. They could give you the best answer and advice. Plus they would need to see the underlying problem. If you get water sometimes and other times you don't you can have a problem with the pressure system. They could fix that and set you up so your water is free flowing!

At the top of most apartment buildings is a big cistern that gravity feeds water to the entire apartment building. If you are using water at a busy time of day and your apartment's cistern is not big enough to handle the load, you can easily find yourself running out of water.

Most times, the cistern is supposed to be backed up by a generator that pumps water up from the city water lines, but this being China, means that they probably didn't go with the size pump they should have, hence the lack of water.

BTW, if you value your sanity, never look inside your building's cistern.  If you thought Chinese restaurant kitchens were bad, this makes them look like computerized clean rooms.

i do live on a top floor, there is no heavy industrial facilities here.  It was fine here in the winter so i assuming it has to do something with allocation in the summer.  As the city is actually a desert city and hardly ever rains, though it has the yellow river ruining through it.  I have filled up a bucket of water for when it goes off but itsnot just peak times can happen 1am in the morning.

Everyone knows the importance of water in our day to day lives. Life on earth is sustained due to water itself. Make smart use of water in everyday life.
