'Get out!' or 'Why are you smoking inside? I don't smoke, neither the babies in mothers hands....' in English with 'show&tell'. I do it daily!

I am in the new building, full of contractors, and everybody has to extinguish the butt, when I enter the elevator!

'No ming bai' & 'laowai/waiguoren' answer don't help them!

I don't have a solution for you, since everybody here is used to no diaper babies leaving human waste everywhere including the floors of elevators, but in anther country I would recommend a vacuum sealed bag of 20 day old unrefrigerated cheese. Put a clothes pin on your nose and open the seal.

By doing the same thing you do - pretend to speak a language that I obviously suck at (although I don't pretend to of the ethnicity - probably because I'm not doing so on the internet - or in an expat forum).

I use my crap Chinese skills to point out what they're doing. The result (much like pointing someone's crap English when they don't want to lose face on a public forum), is usually to ignore me (perhaps by saying something I don't understand.. oh, look, another comparison!). Sometimes, others will also show how rude or silly the person is (but, again, can have the same results :(  )

Fortunately, there are times when the culprit will look sheepish and quickly change their ways with an apology... and their face is 'saved' and 'gained'. Better to change and be thought better of, than not and be considered ignorant!

make a bonfire, fill the elevator with smoke. Exagerating and taking their actions to an extreme level is a way of making your point across hehee

I can speak enough Chinese and I usually have my son with me, so I use that and say: What are you trying to do kill us, we are in an elevator stupid!! Its the best chance I get to release my stress lawfully.
