Guangming new town. Famous in the area for a farm. You can fish there. Your looking for a rural area in shenzhen so dont expect any subway to get you there. Make you a deal. You find guangming on a map and if you decide your willing to do the work to actually go out there. Then ill find the exact adress and directions.

You don't need to rent tackle. It can be bought really cheap here.

There was fishing tackle shop downstairs from SZ train station, Louhou I think. By the entrance to the metro. I don't know if it's still there. But someone here maybe knows.

You should be able to buy a telescopic pole, line, terminal rigs etc for about 200 RMB.

I fish a lot in GZ, so I don't know much about locations in SZ. If you want to know more about the local tackle and methods, comment below and I will give info wink.

ScotsAlan I have to ask, can the big fish be eaten or are they just grass carp or another variant of fish that are all bones? I have eaten some fish that tasted good, but is it safe to eat? Here in Hubei they have tons of lakes and millions of ponds; they have frogs, crayfish, worms, bugs, but they few game fish. No why. I am guessing they don’t promote the local fishing because at some point in time many would test the fish for heavy metals etc. and I am guessing the bad press wouldn’t do any good. Also, especially in America, game fishing is major business (competitions) and I don’t see the Chinese wanting to be put to shame. I live next to a really large reservoir, but there is no sport fishing, no water sports, and little housing close to the water. In the last two years I have seen one sport boat, one trashed jet ski, and oddly enough on hovercraft going down a small city street and that’s it for water sports.

From what I have seen, most fish are taken for the wok.

I don't eat fish myself, for exactly the reasons you give above.

I have yet to figure out why anyone fishes here. All I ever see is people catching really small fish, trash fish (carp) or really small trash fish. Even if you caught a nice fish the odds that it is safe to eat are really slim. I would have to think if you did a catch and release the locals would think you were nuts. I am guessing most of the men do it to get away from their wives and to catch a little sunshine.

ScotsAlan:

Big fish in Hunan. Real rod bending, reel screaming stuff.  Fit healthy fish.

The Chinese tourist department have really missed the boat on this one. Angling tourism is big money, but they do nothing to attract anglers here.

If I had the money I would build a fishing resort. That is my day dream wink.

Don't most guys fish to get a days peace from their wives? Smile

ScotsAlan:

Nope. I fish because I enjoy it. I like it when my wife and I go fishing together.

I know Americans who enjoy shooting big animals. Not my thing at all. But their perfect woman is the Palin type, who wants to shoot big critters too.

Each to their own I suppose. But I never go fishing to get away from the wife.

While i havent been to the place your going. I have been a few times. Anything your expecting forget it. A small body of water, used as a fish farm. Cheap ass equipment. You sit on the bank and cast. Your only going to catch a carp or something. Theyll have a restaurant right there to cook it for you. If you want to take it home, theyll clean it for you if you like.

If you want an hours peace its fine. If you want real fishing its probably best to travel further than shenzhens city center.

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
