Q: Weird occurrences with Ctrip?

While trying to book tickets last night on ctrip I noticed that the English and Chinese websites don't list the same info.  I haven't done enough checking to definitively say, but I am pretty sure that the English site tickets are all 100+ yuan more expensive than the Chinese site.

Another weird thing I saw on the the Chinese site only is that it said that people over the age of 70 cannot buy tickets on the site and must find someone to do it for them. What's that about?

Is ctrip always this shady?

I can't say I have noticed the things you mentioned but then again I haven't looked. In all other matters, that is booking my flights online from here to Beijing, they have been excellent. Even when I accidentally missed a flight the refund to my credit card was done in less than a day. I just don't use them for anything other than internal China stuff.

Next time I am on the site I will check out your suspicions.

I had to cancel a flight with them, maybe I didn't have flight insurance, but I had just booked it. I got very little refund, can't remember how much, just that it wasn't much. I had to cancel because they wouldn't let me change the name and take a different woman.

This is why I had my factory book my last ticket from Tianjin to SZ with them on the Chinese version of the site because I KNOW it's cheaper.

I also had to change my flight at the last minute and it only cost me 458rmb (ok but better than losing my ticket price entirely (only 920) and having to pay again)...but then again the factory called them.

Everything in China has a local price and loawai price.
