Q: Well this is a new one... have you guys/gals ever witnessed this?

My wife and I needed to go to the local PSB (police station) or whatever to change some documents so that I had a Chinese name for the real estate company (don't ask). Anyway, my wife told me the last time she went (few days ago) the guy who types out the forms wasn't there because he was drunk.

So, she got mad and demanded someone help her as it was raining outside and this is a damn police office... also that is a retarded excuse. Anyway, we went together the second time and guess what? The person with the stamp wasn't there (to stamp the document) and the guy who fills out the forms wasn't there AGAIN. I demanded someone help us, and they reluctantly called up the workers to get to the office. One took a god damn hour, and when she got there... she said she had to call up the guy who does the forms (because they couldn't just call them both at the same time).

She gave him a call and told us that he didn't want to come. I got really pissed and started asking in Chinese if this place was serious, I told them they were all a bunch of jokes. Some other office worker (there was only like eight in there but only two could help us, the ones who weren't there) asked my wife if I was angry. I glared at him and replied in Chinese "What do think?". Now to the crazy part...

They finally got the loser guy to come in and do the forms and he was some short little prick. He starts typing when some big cop (6'5 and like 300 pounds) in a uniform comes in the door and starts shouting at him... I couldn't really make it out but I think he was swearing at him for shouting at someone else... The little guy gets up and postures up shouting... "What did you say?"

At this point they start fighting each other in the office and then move out into the hallway. Slapping and shin kicking each other into oblivion... I was shocked on so many levels. The horrible fighting styles, the retarded outbursts... the fact two cops were fighting each other in a police station. Wow... it was humiliating to all humans.

Yeah, have you ever witnessed anything like this? Neither was really hurt (I guess the short guy won)... but damn was it pathetic.

What , no video? Sounds normal for China, what did you expect, someone to actually want to work? I always found  got more help and faster by going alone, If my GF came things were not possible.

JacobJohn:

You know, that makes sense, because, for obvious reasons, they want to be more cooperative with you. Then you know why at the end they ask for your telephone number, you know...in case you need them..."we, friends!"

Never happened to me, not exactly. I never have seen two cops get into a fight, but I have seen plenty of people who just don't care about their jobs, including police. I wouldn't be surprised that a cop got too drunk to show up for work. As for the fighting, the guy could have been still not yet sober, hampering his rational decision making. Add to that the whole saving face deal (he could've been embarrassed on being called out on his behavior), and a fight seemed to be acoming.

Wow! That's amazing. I don't know what's funniest. I love how every minute job is allocated to one person and one person alone. "The person with the stamp", "the person who fills in the forms", I never could or will understand the thinking behind this. But the fact two cops started going at each other is like something out of a terrible cop show.  This made me laugh.

Does anyone takes cops seriously in China? Every time I see obvious breaks of the law (for e.g. drunk fools fighting outside a KTV) the cops are here standing, watching and doing nothing.

With that in mind this is not a surprise that cops get no respect in China, people here don't respect of fear cops, they are just indifferent.

As for seeing them fighting with each other in the police station... I have never seen that myself but I am not really surprised considering the above.

People at my police station are usually polite and helpful, some even speak ok English Shock

As for the OP's experience, well I haven't heard anything like this before, but I'm not actually surprised. Wouldn't a real "Life in China" type reality show be wonderful? No holds barred, totally uncensored Chinese behavior, straight to your TV.

iWolf:

Mr Burak, you and I must be lucky. My local is almost too helpful.

After many trips there for various things, the guy in charge now knows my name and has tried to learn some rudimentary english geetings (i'm the only whitey in the area apparently). It's kinda cute and a little funny.

I have found, at this cop shop at least, that being polite and staying cool when the usual fuckups occur goes a long way in future dealings. Most of the locals i have seen there are usually ranting and crying and no one wants to deal with that shit.

Another day in paradise.  After 7 years in China, nothing surprises me any more.  I will never forget tha 8 year street kid who asked me if I wanted to sleep with his mother for 500 yuan and swore to me she was a virgin!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah, can I continue? hahahahahahahahahah, How on the Earth is this possible? hahahahahahahahah? Thanks man, you've made my evening.

You know I was expecting the shortest one to bow down and apologize for being so unprofessional and whatever being so may push on the nerves of the superior. Unbelievable, simply unbelievable! And you know, if I were in such situation, I would have tried to apologize myself just to cool down the spirits. Of course, i would have put myself in danger too but I guess this is how I am feeling sorry when I see people fighting each other. What did you do?

Robk:

Well, I was going to break them up but then I thought to myself, "yeah... sure, do that so they can all blame the lao wai for causing it and making those bruises...". So I just watched and started laughing...

Finally I thought, I will get to see some Kung Fu... surely the police are taught Kung Fu! They weren't, they slapped each other around like two school girls fighting over the popular boy...

If this is how their police brawl, let me tell you... don't expect ANY help from them.

I hope you didn't buy the property.

Robk:

Haha, actually that police station is for a different district. When we move into the new property it will be a new police station in the upscale side of town. I doubt they will be as stupid as it will be mainly rich Chinese going in and out of the new station.

Rich Chinese are pretty stupid. They flood the western world with cheap money and drive up the price of housing and perfume. :-p

Wow, that's ... not sure there are words for that ^^

Where I live, the police station is all new, there's a big reception hall with marble floor, and the people were professional in their work., things done quick and without a fuss. The area is relatively new and it's a foreigner gettho.

Scandinavian:

is the stamp guy in the marble reception, e.g. you go to some slow office, and then on your way out you need lazy reception guy to stamp ?

DrMonkey:

They work like in a factory line : you start at one employee, then move on to the next, and so on, until you got your paper with the red stamp. They might be over-staffed, but at least it's efficient.

Only had one run-in with the police really and that nearly turned into a fight. Off-duty copper tried it on with my missus and I got in his face. It became a competition of bad breath. I probably got off lightly.

I am not suprised by this. It disapoints me the attitude of the police here. They are representatives of the government. Perhaps that is why, the government is also a joke.
