Q: What’s the point of having a weibo account?

I don't get the Weibo craze. It's real-name. It's government censored. You can't repost anything sensitive. You can't post anything sensitive. It's full of trolls and fake users. It's poorly designed...the list goes on.

The only difference between Weibo and Facebook is that Facebook doesn't censor its users as much. Young people like to share what they find interesting. It's not a news website.

Even though it is censored, well known Chinese celebrities and people with huge followings tend to get away "crossing the line" more and more.

Han Han occasionally says some pretty racy stuff.

There's also this woman, who Economist added to their "The World in 2013" print: http://www.economist.com/news/21566394-six-million-reasons-pay-attention-hung-verdict

So I guess in answer to your question, censored or not, it is still probably the best way to get "unfiltered" accounts of things happening here.

It's only a crazed cause government protectionism keeps twitter out. And on that note, I don't get the hub-bub about twitter. I couldn't care LESS about people's tweets.
