18000 party officials left the country that has such a great harmonious heaven on earth, no,no, so it aint so.
on the bright side for america, we could hand them over minus the money and get some of our trade imbalance back or give them some treasury notes, after all, its only toilet paper and china never has enough.
perhaps somebody should ask the question that nobody wants to ask, who are the fools in charge when this was happening and why are they still in power, because you cant vote them out. oh yea, forgot that one.

It has always been like that since Deng opened China, local officials are all trying to make some quick money by not regulating anything and involving themselves into corruption scandals then get out of the country before they get into troubles, once they are abroad there is very little chance that China can ever catch them as this country has no other allies than North-Korea, and even less extradition agreements. Unlike for example the US and the EU, if a wanted criminal in the US goes to the EU he will likely be pursued by European countries cops and ultimately be sent to the US in order to be judged (except if he is fast enough to run in the embassy of a country that is not allied with the US, like Snowden did).

Reading reports from the KMT era and Qing era, you would feel it's exactly the same as now. The 1950/1980 period looks like a singularity, and I would say, equality and lack of corruption is far easier when there's almost nothing :p
9 million people have given up their Chinese passport since it became possible. They have left with extreme piles of money.
Those who leave are the corrupt officials, and the innovative go-getters who could actually contribute to building a better China.
Rule of law. Look at the case against Zhou Yongkang (or whatever he is called)
The reason why it takes sooooo long time to bring him to justice is that all the pieces of the case have to be scrutinized to make sure it doesn't affect those who the party wants to remain. Zhou is not tried according to Chinese law, but according to party rules. A very clear statement that the party is above the law. With that, you can never expect proper rule of law for the common folk.
It's in essence a feudal system. With the CCP acting as the aristocracy and everyone else acting as the peasants. It makes sense, there are no rights only privileges, there are no independent courts only extensions of the party, there is no free press or freedom of education, only propaganda and thought control.
Everything goes through friends, family and various brown nosers. There is no accountability beacuse the political elite is so far removed from the pleabs, and the pleabs don't know their own good anyway.
