Q: What are the better domestic Beers to try ?
So far I haven't found anything to write home about , and what is it with everythig at room temperature ?
Any suggestions , or do I buy imported beer ?
Most of them are generic (& weak) lagers. Tsingtao do a reasonable stout.
Instead of buying imported beers why not check if your city has any craft beer bars. Quite a few Chinese now learning to brew their own decent beers.

We are in Rudong in Jiangsu till the end of the week, then off to Beijing till mid June.Then we will be in Hangzhou for a couple of months.

You'll find lots of craft beer bars (selling locally brewed and imported beers) in Beijing. Check out the main site Beijing pages. There was an article about Beijing breweries a few months ago.
Not iso much choice in Hangzhou. Eudora by the lake had some decent beers but 60rmb/pint. Before 8pm it's buy one, get one free happy hour.

takes a while to get used to these numb-nutz not chilling brewski...... I hate to get too analytical/boring with you, but it has nothing to do with taste preference. Wang did not have the $/imagination/tech to chill suds, so he drinks it room temp. That simple.
Just drink Tsingtao, everyone else does*
*exceptions for night on the town in a city big enough to have some choices
I was berated by a local girl with pretensions as I wasn't drinking imported beer.
"Why do you laowai drink Tsingtao?"
Easy....
1) Cheap
2) Tastes OK
3) Drink enough it does the job.
4) Don't care about face or looking good.
But my local brew in Fujian is quite cheeky...HQ Knight.
500ml can , 5% wheat beer style , 6 rmb.....job done!
Homemade Grape wine. The best wine in China. Try to buy it from local. If you are patient enough, you even can make it yourself by mixed the white wine with the grape (red grape) and keep it for at least 9 months. The taste is wonderful.
I enjoy both Harbin and Snow beer from Nth China but only when they are cold.
I find Taishan to be the best tasting. Otherwise, there are two Tsingtao beers that I enjoy. One is the Aguerta (the green one) and the other is the shorter bottles with gold foil. If all else fails, I just buy some nice imported beer.
In Qingdao (former german colony and germany is somewhat known for its beer) you find different types of beer. I dont drink beer at all. But you should give it a try.

Chinese beers seem like American ones to me. That is to say, watery and dull. I go to supermarkets with import sections to get my German beers, Scottish/Irish stouts and English ales.
If you can make it to Jiangsu there is a local brewery in Hai an called Big Boss. They make a red ale that is quite tasty cold.
